I recently moved to NYC from Ohio. In Ohio I was making 12.xx as a medic for a private co. In NYC the private I am doing Per Diem with starts at 21.50/hr.

Are there any other NYC medics that can weigh in? Have you heard good or bad about senior care ems? any input would be greatly appreciated. ps i take micro mid dec!!!

Specializes in Peds Cardiology,Peds Neuro,Pedi ER,PICU, IV Jedi.

Keep in mind that not all Excelsior students who are medics work in NY. I worked in the field in VA and made $7/hour...with a degree in the field. Then I made 13.85/hour returning to the field 5 years later. Now I don't work in the field because there's no way they could match my current pay with differentials.

Specializes in ER, IICU, PCU, PACU, EMS.

There's another aspect to consider also - whether you work for a fire based EMS system or private.

I worked in a fire based system and I took a considerable paycut to start nursing.

To the OP, remember that the NYC pay may seem like a lot when you are living in Ohio, when living in NYC - it's low. The cost of living is extremely high there.

i have a normal 9-5 job that pays the bills. just getting the per diem for the fun of it. but still its not that bad.

I work for a private service west of Atlanta, Ga and their pay starts at 10.32 an hour. If you want to work special events and day trucks then they pay a 3.00 per hour incentive to medics.

In NJ medics make anywhere from 18-40 dollars an hour although most make somewhere in the middle.

I make $0 as a medic ... I'm a volunteer, baybeeeee! :D

Arizona -- $20.00/hour
