Excelsior student/Colorado Nurses

Published

Hey are there any Excelsior students that are in Colorado?

I have read there you are required to have 650 hours RN experience before endorsing.

Looking for information.

Thanks, Lisa

Nope -- it's 2000 hours. If you're looking to get initial licensure in Colorado, it's a 350-hour preceptorship for LPNs, 750 hours for everyone else, before you can take boards. For people with their RN license, it's 2000 hours in another jurisdiction, and then you can endorse in.

That burst my bubble!

My husband really wanted to move there!

:crying2:

I was sooo for it!

750 hrs only equals approx 19 full time (40hrs) weeks! I don't think thats too bad...the 2000 hrs is approx 1yr (40hrs) full time... =)

Oh, trust me ... we've been eyeballing Colorado Springs for a while, until the housing market went bust and it became nearly impossible to sell our current place. I have a spreadsheet called "hours" where I kept track of my hours to know when I hit the magic 2000. I work three 12s a week, so about 1,872 annually. I hit 2K in December.

So you can either move there now, find a preceptorship (350 hours since you were an LPN, right?), and take your NCLEX. Or, work in FL for about a year or so. It's not out of reach -- don't fret! :)

Lunah, do you know how the preceptorship works?

I have been an LPN in Florida for 8 years now! WOW, had to calculate that one!

We would pick up and move if we could!

We don't own our house, we rent. Really, we don't have anything holding us back.
