Hi Everyone.
I have two finals left before I finish my first semester in an ADN program in Alabama. The school I go to is absolutely horrible and so unorganized. I have been looking into Excelsior and I don't care if I have to start over with my nursing classes. I read the info in the sticky and it said that in order to attend Excelsior you must have completed 50% of your clinicals in a nursing program or hold a certificate or degree such as LPN or RT. When I go to Excelsior's site I can't find any information that states those requirements. I am desperate to leave my current school and am holding a candle of hope that Excelsior is an option for me. I know it is difficult to get licensed in Alabama but perhaps I could license in Mississippi and transfer my license? I called Excelsior and the Alabama Board of Nursing both today. The BON just kept hanging up on me and I hung up on Excelsior after I held forever. If anyone has a minute and can help clarify any of these points with me I would appreciate it so much!
Thanks!

Go to this page: School of Nursing (If that link doesn't work, go to excelsior.edu, click on the "programs" tab, then the "nursing" tab, and then the link for "Associate in Science in Nursing.") Download the School of Nursing catalog (link is to the right on the ASN page). The info is on page 3.
Thanks Lunah. I had just looked at the courses required. I didn't see that link to the right. Oh well. I guess I will just suck it up and drudge on. Really don't want to though.

alabama bon requires excelsior rn graduates to have previous experience as a lpn first. they wont accept you with 50% of schooling completed per excelsior new policy. the ABON also evaluate each individual on a case by case basis but routinely deny licensure without prior lpn experience. im currently a lpn and recently enrolled in excelsior college asn program.

State Board Requirements - excelsior.edu
It looks like even if you get your license in MS and try to endorse in, they're still going to review your application and there's a chance it could be denied. Just because you'd have no problem getting a MS license doesn't mean that AL will automatically give you one. Look at Maryland: they flat-out won't accept Excelsior grads in any way, shape or form since 2008.
However, for the most accurate answer, I would contact the Alabama BON--not Excelsior--to ask how endorsing in from another state as an Excelsior graduate would work.
PS: I recommend e-mailing when dealing with BONs. They always seem to get back to me a lot faster if I write than if I call :)
