Excelsior Health Safety Exam

Published

Just took Excelsior's Health Safety exam this past Saturday, do not underestimate this one! I scratched by with a C and thought while I was taking the test that I was doing well. Know the nursing process like the back of your hand, practice some medication calculations I only had two or three of those, know THERAPEUTIC COMMUNICATION. Way too much of that on this test. Know what a helping relationship is and what it involves. Know environmental and physical factors relating to health safety like types of vision changes that can put patients at risk. Know age related safety issues such as for infants, toddlers, adolescents, young adults, middle adults and older adults (for example toddlers and poisonous substances) to me this test is serious BS. I was expecting questions on prioritizing nursing care like "one patient is bleeding and vomiting all over the floor and another patient can't breathe because he got a piece of asparagus lodged in his throat from his lunch from the hospital cafeteria: which one do you see about first?" Making sure the call light is in reach and making sure your patient has on non-skid shoes and you know real NURSING things like that.... nah mostly just psychosocial, psychololgical, "therapeutic" BS. Sorry to be so subjective but just be ready, don't let this one surprise you. I know I was surprised, when they handed me my grade I was like WHAT THE ............

I took it today. Much harder than I thought it would be. Got a B thanks to Lisa Arends study guides and practice tests. I got a lot of communication questions, especially about being assertive.
