Excelsior College in South Carolina

I am currently an LPN, transitioning out of the Army in the next few months. I will be moving to South Carolina. I have seen and read conflicting information on here about Excelsior and being able to NCLEX for the state of SC. The SC BON website does not list Excelsior or any other online program's pass rates. I know Excelsior grads can work in the VA system. Anyone have any input or experience with this ? All help is greatly appreciated. Merry Christmas :)

I live in South Carolina. I am not a student at Excelsior yet, but I do know several people who have graduated from there and are working without any problems. One is finishing up her Masters soon, if she hasn't finished already. I also work with a couple of people who are currently attending. So, I don't think there is a problem with you attending Excelsior College and working here in SC. I plan to enroll in January. I wish you much success.

Thank you so much for the input. I am just scared. I suppose because It is not a "traditional" school. I went through LPN school in the Army, and it was very structured for us. Do you have all of your pre-reqs finished or are you doing those through Excelsior as well ?

There are no additional requirements for licensure in SC at this time. There is a lot of info here, including a link to EC's page about where EC grads require extra steps or hours for licensure: https://allnurses.com/excelsior-college-online/excelsior-college-distance-808335.html

Good luck and thank you for serving. :)

Thank you LT ! That whole thread squared me away. I just have one more question about the exams and how to acquire the study guides? I seen some people stated they purchase from ebay, etc. Do you have a certain publisher you would suggest buying the study guides from? Or there only one study guide out there sold by different people ? I know college network is NOT an option ? Thanks again :)

There are a number of options. One of the least expensive is studygroup101.com - I used some of their study materials when I was doing the ADN program, they're pretty good. I also bought used College Network modules, they weren't bad at all (but I would never sign a contract with them, that's thousands extra I didn't need to spend). I also bought some used Chancellors study guides as well. And a nursing fundamentals text. I also found the EC practice exams to be helpful - you can purchase them for $75 once you register for an exam, and they are excellent study tools and gauges of readiness.
