Hello I am currently enrolled in a traditional nursing program at a community college but am burned out on having to work overnights then go to school/clinicals while attempting to be a father ti a 3 year old. I want to do the excelsior route as others I know have completed it my question is how do you fund it? I know there is 3 different ways to complete the program and I'm not sure what option the majority of people choose to go with but I assume you can only get federal or state aid/loans if you do the courses????? I was thinking about doing the challenge exams but would like input from others. If I do the course route is there assignments etc etc. Sorry about all the questions but this is new to me.

I'm taking the exam route, and I have to say it is a very cheap option. I work 32 hours a week as an LPN and that covers my Excelsior expenses. I am worried about the price of the CPNE, but hopefully I'll qualify for tuition reimbursement at my job by the time I take it. If not, there is a CPNE payment plan offered by Excelsior.

Are you currently a licensed LPN, military medic with specific training or certified paramedic? If not, you are not eligible for the Excelsior College nursing program. They no longer accept students in good standing with partial completion of another program.

No problem. Look for posts from Pixie she was a medic to RN and kept going.

Not everyone realizes that you must be a current LPN or medic to be eligible as in years past the requirements were different.

I did Excelsior when it was still called Regents. (The change happened about the time I graduated and my diploma says Excelsior). At any rate, my employer at the time paid my AASN tuition.

Subsequent schooling for me (BSN and now MSN) is all from Uncle Sam. I call it the delayed WKShadow scholarship. I have to pay it back of course, but I work in an underserved area and I'm hoping to apply for some loan forgiveness. If not, meh, I'll pay it off eventually.
