Can anyone tell me which ALEKS courses will suffice for Excelsior's 2 credit hour requirement?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

Aggiemom, yes, the ALEKS website is hard to navigate! Confusing how you get the ACE credit, too... but I went there to try out the Math courses. The Intermediate Algebra is kinda tough! It's been a while since I did anything like that... so I tried the Basic Math (advanced level) and got an 86!

Thanks for sharing your experience!

Hey Barbara, that's awesome!! It takes an amazing amount of time trying to figure out the system so I'm happy that I could help you out. Will Excelsior accept Basic Math for the math requirement? I don't normally say curse words, but I might just cuss if that is the case!! Intermediate Algebra was hard for me too. I eventually had to pay a tutor to help me. Even with a tutor I made a 76 so you did really well. Once Excelsior receives your credit, don't forget to cancel your account with ALEKS.

Good luck!

Hi Aggiemom,

Thanks for the reply, and the encouragement! :) I have been going around and around on ALEKS site, and my interpretation is that I will need a course that will be eligible for ACE credit, and the basic math is not... however, they show beginning algebra, which may not be toooo bad.. and, of course, the intermediate, which you took. I also sent an email to Excelsior, to see what they tell me about the math requirement... if beginning algebra will work, I'll do it! I bombed the geometry part in the basic math, anyway... so, hopefully the beginning algebra will be ok, and accepted! Once I find out, I'll start the ALEKS account... (I'm still on the 'trial')

Where are you in this whole process? Have you completed many of the exams? How is it going for you so far?

I've only applied. That's it. Looking into math, then Eng 101, CLEP for Human Growth Psych,Penn Foster for Info Lit, ECE exam for Micro. I have all the other pre-reqs. Then.. Health Safety, Transitions, a big kick in the ass, then enrollment! (Probably could have used the big kick in the ass about a year ago!!)

Good luck to you!! :)

They will not accept Beginning Algebra, but gladly accepted Intermediate Algebra. Sorry, I don't know about the others.

Hey... I just found this post... oh NOOOO!!! They won't accept the beginning??!!

That was the info the advisor gave me. It wouldn't hurt to ask again though. You might get a different answer. It's a new requirement and so there was some confusion when I called about what was accepted and what wasn't. So it really might be worth your while to check into it. I originally thought that I would do a CLEP exam but after looking at the content guide, I decided that it covered way too many topics. I read about ALEKS on a forum and that wound up being a little less stressful for me.

You should think about saving a course or two to do while you're doing the new FCCA exam that takes 8 weeks to complete or while you wait for the CPNE. I really wish now that I had done that. You can start taking nursing exams once you have completed all but 10 credits of your general ed requirements. Maybe save English or Math or both to do while you're waiting. I don't know if this was the best option for English, but I did the UEXCEL college writing through Excelsior. I am not a writer and wound up making a C with minimal preparation. Not stellar by any means:) but a pass in my book!!

There's a ton of information on this site & yahoo nursing groups too. Good luck!

What is the FCCA exam?

What is the website for aleks because different ones pop up when I search for it and I wouldn't want to pay for a scam.. is it aleks.com?

So I emailed my advisor and she said allllll of the classes are accepted. Even Basic Algebra.. :D :D :yeah:

Oh, GREAT!!! Thanks for posting!! :yelclap: :yelclap:

Since I'm not enrolled, they were a little vague... I had thought of trying the Basic Algebra, since it can be used for ACE credit.

So glad you clarified that!!
