I swear.... I mean really, the majority of the nurses on my unit have only been nurses there for 5ish years....thats really not THAT long ago that they were new nurses, new graduates. But yet it seems like they don't remember how hard it was, how difficult it is to learn and learn soooo much, and start a new job, and be around new coworkers, and that sometimes you don't get it ALL right....but no, they seem to thrive off of watching the new nurse squirm, and be uncomfortable, and ask for help only to be talked down to. I vow right now, in 5 yrs when I'm on the other end, when there's a new nurse on the unit, and they're learning, and they're asking questions, or if they mess up...I vow that I will never make them feel like the nurses on my unit have made me feel. I will be kind, i will remember what this feels like, and I will help them in a kind and effective way. I will teach them. I will be kind.

Awesomeness!
I'm glad that you are vowing to make a change and help out those in need once you become more experienced. Not to say that every experienced nurse is mean and not helpful but it definitely leaves a lasting impression for the few that are.
It takes just one nurse to mix up the status quo and bring about a change that will be positive and benficial for those that come after him/her.
Stay strong and good luck!

Yes! Some of them have. And some people are just not good teachers.
I have not quite met my year mark yet, but there are already swarms of even newer nurses who need as much help as I did in the beginning. I still have plenty of questions, but it's nice to be able to give and take instead of always being the taker.
