Ever been disciplined for staying late...two months past orientation?

Nurses New Nurse

Specializes in Tele, MSN-education grad. 5/10.

I have been reading these threads regarding staying late, etc and this is a problem for me and feel my manager will be ready to write me up soon.

I work on a medical tele floor, had 10 weeks orientation which ended Nov 7. I take care of 6-7 patients. A few times I have had patients critical enough to be transferred to ICU. I routinely have multiple discharges and admissions during the day, no help (usually) with them and no IV team. I only take time to eat...15 min. No time for breaks. I work smart consolidating my tasks.

So, when I'm asked what is happening that makes me late I'm thinking...duh! I feel the ratios are excessive! The latest I've clocked out was 2115 (work 7a-7p). I usually clock out 1945. My manager stated that management does not give new grads any extra time to complete their work...they need to be done with charting, etc. by end of shift.

She did not tell me I would get written up, only a verbal discussion asking how we can help meet that goal.

Let me add that most nurses on my floor don't clock out on time, although not as late as I do.

Anyone else experiencing this?
