It would probably be more productive to ask your instructor how you could improve the next paper. Asking other people for topics they used won't fix the issues in your own writing, especially since you don't know what the issues are (you say you don't know why you didn't do so well.)
Keep your chin up--you'll get better w/ practice! :)
they wont tell us ive asked
That's hugely concerning!! So they just give you a grade with no comments? Some of my classes are online (I'm doing an RN-BSN bridge) and so the instructor doesn't mark my paper w/ a red pen, but there's always a comments section on the page of the website where our submitted assignments are listed. Part of their jobs is to answer students' questions and help them grow. Of course they won't spoon-feed you an assignment, but if you're not understanding what they want they should at least tell you "I'd like to see you synthesize more theory," or "These sources aren't appropriate for college-level writing," or whatever the issue was. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what to tell you, but I would not feel at all comfortable paying instructors to not even give me feedback when my work doesn't earn an A.

But i still believe they should provide some kind of feedback on how to improve his essay next time he tries to apply.
