Hello everyone,
I'm an ER RN currently working in one of the major level 1 hospitals in Chicago IL and i am planning to move to Las Vegas in about a year. From previous experience, what hospitals do you guys (who have worked in Las Vegas hospitals) recommend and what is the pay? We're talking about 2 years of experience tops in the ER environment. From my research so far, there are mixed feelings with every hospital in the Las Vegas area. Personally i'm interested in good team work and good benefits. Of course, good pay is a pro as well. Any details on relocating assistance from some of the hospitals? Any details would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!!!

The best hospital system to work for is St. Rose Dominican. They have the nicest facilities, working environment, employee relations, and pay significantly more than competitor hospital networks in the LV valley. As you can imagine, securing employment with them can be more difficult than thought. They have 3 campuses.
Sienna (largest), San Martin, De Lima.
Valley Health system has a handful of hospitals and a brand new one in Henderson.
HCA operates Sunrise, Desert Springs, Mountain View, etc. I've been told working conditions are unfavorable at those facilities.
UMC in downtown LV is the only level 1 trauma center in the state. It gets the big and bad. Coming from Chicago perhaps that's a preference you hold. They pay on the lower end.
For teamwork and benefits I recommend St. Rose. However there are other hospitals in the area that I am less familiar with as well. Good luck on your move! I will also be moving to the LV area this spring and plan on working per diem at multiple locations.
Hey ICUman,
Thanks a lot for the info. What hospitals are you going to work, for per diem?
Do you think there's gonna be any results from online applying? Or is it on the "who you know" basis? I'm asking this because here in Chicago at least, that's how it works most of the time. And from your experience, what would be the lower end pay that you've mentioned?
Thanks again!
I'm going to apply for UMC, valley health, st. rose. Keep in mind the per diem rates are obviously different than the regular full-time rates. For per diem, the nurse recruiters have quoted me anywhere from $47-63/hr.
With your experience you'd probably rack at least $35 ish (full-time).
Supposedly it is more challenging when they see out of state applicants apply, but I'm persistent and not worried much. I'm sure there is some "who you know" bias, like anywhere. Hakuna matata.

I'm new to the ED at the brand new Henderson Hospital which is One of six valley health system hospitals in Las Vegas.
I absolutely love it so far. The staff are so kind and helpful. I'm a new grad, so I know we can be seen as burdens at times; but not once have I felt that way at Henderson.
Also, I was VERY pleasantly surprised at how busy it gets and the acuity levels for only being open for a couple months.
henderson does hold Admits often, and as the patient's ED RN you will still care for that patient as if you were their nurse on the floor until they go upstairs or you end your shift. This includes ICU patients. It can get kinda crazy but at the same time it offers a wide variety of experience in different specialties while still caring for ED patients that fill your other open rooms.
Anyhoo, you should definitely look into it!
