I am a type B straight up with a twist of type A, it has worked well for me LOL. I am A.D.D. as well. However, I think there is room for many different personalities. I work with many diverse people and we love it that way. Some are better at dealing with a particular situation than others, and we call on each other for our strengths. For instance, there may be a nurse on that just LOVES the psych patients, or peds, or whatever. If you are a great team, you can use people to their best advantage :)

Yes, congrats on your new job!

I worked in a level one trauma center for 10 years - loved it. My personality is pretty outgoing, type A for sure, not always the most tactful but honest/ blunt.

I loved the intro. You could have described me and most ED nurses that I know. As far as personalities in the ED are concerned that is probably the most common. It is challenging to be an assertive (sometimes changed to aggressive and that ugly B word by intimidated doctors) nurse. If you are working in an atmosphere that promotes learning and collaboration along with a healthy respect for each other it is an awsome atmosphere. Assertiveness is not always appreciated though and there can be some backlash.

The personalities of the nurses are largely dependent on the culture of the department. That changes place to place.

Thinking a lot about the "lateral violence" and "lateral aggressiveness" among nurses in ER this evening. I started a new job in ER in a teaching facility (in another state). I already experienced it. Funny, my old ER I was loved by many, awarded, totally perceived me as a community hero. Why is this happening? People are funny, there is no competitive factors to this. I know that they know better. Maybe its my personality, I am strong but tactful. Doc see it. Few of them have commented on my approach to patients. I just want to say, do not mistake anyone's tactfulness as weakness. I brought it out of home, and my life. I am strong and tactful. I don't think you should have an ER personality. It is the responsibility of each member to take care of each member. Peace, man. Happysouth is against aggressive approach to new nurses in ER. :heartbeat
