ER in GTA

hello everyone!

i'm currently working in ed somewhere in toronto for 4 months now. it's my first nursing job and i'm done with the orientation. i love er and i'm looking for downtown hospital or any gta hospital that send their staff for emergency certification course. i'm considering mt. sinai or st. michael's hospital.

my inquiries would be:

anyone who knows a hospital that send their staff for courses? (the one i'm working with used to send their staff)

how's working condition for mt. sinai or any downtown hospital? :nurse:

thanks a lot in advance!

so you are working right now in a GTA ER and want to change hospitals after only 4 months of orientation? It doesnt seem fair to the hospital to go through extensive orientation and then just get a new job at another ER unless absolutely necessary. I think it would be difficult in the job interview to explain why you are leaving the other ER...the new one might not want to hire you in case you decide to leave their ER.

Mt Sinai is hiring right now most hospitals are always looking for nurses (st joes, st mikes, sick kids, etc) They usually have a 6 month orientation for new grads i believe.

Does anyone know how long ER orientation is for grads with like 1 year + of experience?

Good luck with your search though! You probably won't have that much of a hard time finding a job though...it might be a little difficult trying to move around after just going through orientation i believe (but im only a student not an RN yet so I might be wrong on that)

don't get me wrong, i like where i am right now (for most days :wink2:) it is just that when i applied for the job the nurse manager told me that they send their staff to take courses ( i will not take the job if she said they don't, coz i know how bc ed are, considering i'm new to nursing plus the fact that is far from home). so i accepted the job though is far from where i live 1 1/2 hour taking the bus willing to sacrifice. when i talked to cpl if they are still sending their staff for courses, she said they used to but not anymore. and i'm not in my orientation anymore, i'm on my own.

i want to take courses and heard that downtown hospitals send their staff to take them (of course with condition of staying for year or years) which i don't mind. that is why i'm asking how is it working downtown? :nurse:

wow that really sucks! how do they expect you to be a good ER nurse if they don't send your for specialized classes? I heard the George Brown college ER course is good (most people take that one from what I have heard).

Hope your situation works out! That's really wierd how they don't let you guys take them anymore (I thought every ER did...) I guess not! Good to know
