  1. don't get me wrong, i like where i am right now (for most days :wink2:) it is just that when i applied for the job the nurse manager told me that they send their staff to take courses ( i will not take the job if she said they don't, coz i know how bc ed are, considering i'm new to nursing plus the fact that is far from home). so i accepted the job though is far from where i live 1 1/2 hour taking the bus willing to sacrifice. when i talked to cpl if they are still sending their staff for courses, she said they used to but not anymore. and i'm not in my orientation anymore, i'm on my own. i want to take courses and heard that downtown hospitals send their staff to take them (of course with condition of staying for year or years) which i don't mind. that is why i'm asking how is it working downtown?
  2. hello everyone! i'm currently working in ed somewhere in toronto for 4 months now. it's my first nursing job and i'm done with the orientation. i love er and i'm looking for downtown hospital or any gta hospital that send their staff for emergency certification course. i'm considering mt. sinai or st. michael's hospital. my inquiries would be: anyone who knows a hospital that send their staff for courses? (the one i'm working with used to send their staff) how's working condition for mt. sinai or any downtown hospital? thanks a lot in advance!
  3. hello! i'm new to nursing and i would like some inputs from the nurses. how is part time different from fulltime. i've been working ft (for 2-3 months already) in er and today i got a job offer to work part time in orthopedic floor. i would like to try ortho coz i'm a physiotherapist from my home country plus the fact the hospital that is offering me pt job is closer to where i'm staying. i heard that they pay you in lieu for the benefits and talked to them a while ago that i can buy my benefits and work ft hours still. my inquiry would be, would it worth the risk to quit from my ft in er (by the way the hospital is 1 1/2 hours from home) to move to ortho and do pt job? i love er it is just that it is to far coz i take the bus plus i'm scared when winter comes. any advice will be greatly appreciated.
  4. hello everyone! i'm having a dilemma about working from er to ortho floor. i started working in er last july and i like it. then i got a jot a job interview for ortho just today and got the job. i don't know what to do. i like er but it is too far for me ( which i didn't realized when i applied for the job) being new in nursing, that was one of my mistakes. never had any nursing experience before and like every body else, i'm overwhelmed in er but love the diversity. then today, i was offered a job part time in ortho which is close to where i'm staying. by the way, i'm a physiotherapy from my home country, the reason why i kinda like to do ortho. something that is close to my heart. i'm thinking of getting myself comfortable first at the floor like ortho and go back to er in the next 3 years. but my dilemma is, would it be worth it working part time in ortho and just pick up shifts to have ft hours? i feel guilty to leaving er for they provided my training but the hospital is far, specially in winter. the some where saying ortho is a heavy floor that i should stick in er. i don't know... any advice would do. thanks!
  5. Hi! The first thing you need to do is apply for an assessment from wherever province you want to practice as a nurse. From there, they will advise you if you are eligible to take the CRNE. Goodluck!
  6. I know that. I'm just wondering if I can do anything about it. If there is another way. Coz I'm done with my 2 years this May and i'll apply for my open permit in June. But i'll not get the permit not until early next year. As I already wrote.. I'm was just hoping to get my license early this year then next year. Thanks for that reply...
  7. I'm just wondering if anyone have the same situation as I have. I came here in Canada as a babysitter (coz that is the easiest way to do it). I took the exam last Oct and passed the exam. Unfortunately, I cannot get a license because the CNO requires me to have a permit to work as a nurse or even an open permit, which i will not get it till early next year. so anyone has an idea how to work things faster? Coz it is fraustrating to passed the exam and the only requirement that I need is to have a permit to work as a nurse or an open permit? Thanks a lot!
  8. IEN (internationally Educated Nurse) here in Canada . Sure I'll help you. Just let me know what you need to know. Where in Canada you want to go? I know an Online review. I don't know how it will work with the exam since you are in the Philippines. First you need to have your credentials evaluated by the province you want to take the exam. Let me know if you made up your mind. Goodluck!
  9. hi! my opinion is challenge the exam before trying to take the re-entry nursing prgram. better yet instead of going to a re-entry program why not attend to a review course that is focus on CRNE? I have friends in BC they are IEN too and they took the exam without taking the expensive re-entry courses. Now they passed the exam and working as a nurse. I am an IEN too here in Ontario just took the exam last Oct. and with God's grace I passed the exam. I was in the same dillema before. i was thinking of going to re-entry courses but instead i enrolled to a review (prep) course for CRNE. My 2 cents! Well again, that will depend on the credentialling body what will be the result of your evaluation.
  10. Hi! i just passed the CRNE last Oct, if you will read some of the threads I thinks many of us passed the exam. Specially the august exam. anyway, where is she planning to take the course. coz I know 2 from toronto. Thanks to allnurses bacause someone introduced me to this prep class which i find it really helpful before my exam.. did your friend take a course before?
  11. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't pass. Well to make your burden lighter, 3 of my friends in the review course didn't pass too and their work permits depended on it. They will take the exam again and can't find a work at this time.
  12. thanks a lot guys! i heard from my friend that other province are still waiting for the results. wish you all goodluck!
  13. hello! definitely CRNE is different from NCLEX. I don't know about the requirements in vancouver but what i know is you need to finished your BSN degree and get your credentials evaluated. If you have the chance to take the RN exam in Philippines take it. It will be better for your evaluation with CRNBC (credentialling body). i have a cousin in Vancouver and she came from the Philippines, they let her take the exam but the same time she is licensed in the Philippines. i came here in Canada after I graduated and never took the exam because i need to leave Philippines before asap and they did allow me here in Ontario to challenged the exam. It varies with the province. so goodluck!
  14. hahaha! i just posted this yesterday and now i got my result. i passed! thanks and praises to god almighty!:) :smiley_aa
  15. Hello! just wondering if anyone who took the exam last oct heard news when are they releasing the exam. It is almost 6 weeks and i'm getting nervous about the thing. sometimes i just try to forget it.
