Well not really, but I failed the Med Surg 1 final, and thus the class. I passed the other 5 classes this semester though. I guess I can retake the class in the Fall, but that puts me a whole two semesters behind!
It just kinda sucks that all the homework, quizzes and etc I did for that class do not go toward your grade unless you pass all the tests. I'd love to finish and be a nurse, but not sure if I want to be two semesters behind and have to wait the 4 months to get back into it all. Frustrating, but I tried very hard for that class, just couldn't pass the tests with a consistent score. I know at least two other people who failed the course too. I just feel like a big loser failure. sigh

Well, you can either be behind... and graduate late... and become a nurse.
Or you can give up... never graduate... and never become a nurse... and regret it later.
Me, personally, am a whole year behind. I miss my original class. I should already be working by now.
But life happens.
Trust me, the thought of dragging school out longer was sheer torture to me, but it would be far worse torture to know I gave up.
Please, don't give up. Go talk to your instructors and counselors. Try to figure out where you need to improve and work on it.
If you have to repeat a class, take the time before you get back in to study. The bright side: you have already covered the material and so you know what to expect. The second time around will be easier.
Don't give up!

We lost most of our people in the first year. It happens. It sucks but it happens. It's easy to feel defeated but all you can do is give up or learn from it and rock it the next time around. Wouldn't you only be 1 semester behind? With all the time and energy and money I put into pursuing nursing. I wouldn't have given up. I would get ticked and sad and angry and probably cry, and than I would tell myself that I can get an A the next go around and be even better and I would continue on.
For me personally. With each semester it got easier. The second year was a breeze.
Thanks for the encouragement. It turns out that the instructor marked the answer sheet wrong on a couple of questions and I ended up passing afterall.
Now, since I spent my free weekend home depressed and angry at myself, I can pick my head up and move forward knowing I can do this and will do much much better next semester.

A close call like this could be a goo learning experience for you- and other students. As a tutor for other nursing students, we highly encourage them to seek help BEFORE they are in danger of failing. As soon as they realize they are struggling with material, go talk to some one for some help. Don't wait until it's too late and you need a 95 on the last test to pass or whatever the situation.
BTW, my school's policy is the similar to yours. Med Surg I is only offered in the fall and Med Surg II in the spring. So if a student fails Med Surg I they have to wait until the next fall to retake it and end up a year behind. Also, students need a 77 average on all the tests in order to pass. If they pass the tests, the homework, quizzes, projects, etc. is factored into their the grade. My junior year, 20 students failed Med Surg I. Ouch...
