So.. is this a thing? I own a successful business and want to start studying for my nursing pre-reqs. I aim to get into a BSN program for Fall of 2021. I currently earn 25k+ monthly, of course it fluctuates but I never make any less than 10k. I have a very nice lifestyle, single, I’m 29 with two kids ages 7 & 9. My family and friends say it’s pointless to go to school at this point..
My thing is I’m super passionate about medicine as well. I’m very “multi-dimensional.” I will always be a business woman at heart, but I have always wanted to obtain this degree and pursue a BSN, and eventually a DNP. I can pay my way through school if I can sustain my business throughout. Is this possible? Is it pointless? I intend to continue keeping my business up and running while I work as a nurse simultaneously. They are two VERY different professions. (I am the only one currently working it along with a few other vendors, but not a part of execution). So basically I am free most of the time and my schedule is flexible. Advice would be greatly appreciated ❤️

Current nursing student here, I think your goals are great! Most schools have already chosen their cohorts for Spring and Fall 2021, the applications process takes up to a year to apply and be offered a spot. Depending on how many pre reqs you need, it could take a 1-2 years for you to be eligible to apply to nursing programs even if you have a degree already. I had to take Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Microbiology and several humanities courses to even submit an application to my ADN program. There are also requirements for general education, entrance testing (TEAS/HESI) and other random requirements depending on the school. I don't want to discourage you, but do some research and set up a realistic timeline on how long it will take you to be program ready.

In addition to the above requirements, there are clinical requirements. Although by the time you get into a program, while your children may be old enough to stay home on their own, its still a consideration - especially if you have night shift clinicals - would you leave them alone all night? What will you do with your kids at 4:30 am when you have to leave for clinical and how will they get to/from school?
Also - if your business requires you to be away on short notice - nursing school DOES NOT care. Depending on your program, you may or may not be allowed to miss a clinical without failing the whole semester. Nursing schools are not known for being compassionate for any reason - especially a business.

Same here, I owned a business, I sold it and now I’m going to pay 85k for an ADN program at a private school.
