I am a CNA at a SNF. We have 30 residents "up front" and 25 in the SCU. i work the 6-2 shift and we only have 2 aids per area plus a bath aid. We never have enough time to chart between 2 meals getting everyone up in the morning and toileting (most of the residents are partially to completly incontinent) I am new to this job (7 months) but this just doesn't seem like enough aids to go around. We are in trouble with the DON all the time for charting not being done but in the same sentence told that "resident care" comes first. sooo frustrating:down:

Do you work at my facility?!? Lol
That's how it is too. When everyone is there, we're pretty well staffed, although we could use one or two more for these people to be taken care of the way they are supposed to be. Bowel and bladder programs are a joke here. I understand how they could work, but I've never seen it actually happen because there is absolutely no time to pot someone every 2 hours. I'm going to stop with that because I could go on and on about the things that SHOULD get done and don't.
The best thing that you can do is work together as a team. Even if no one else does, be the first to step up and lead by example. I swear that is the only thing that keeps us sane; ask any of the girls I work with. We are all going through the same thing and it helps so much that we can vent to each other and have understanding. We all know that we can rely on each other for help during transfers or even to be a witness in those rooms where there has to be 2 going in at a time. No, we don't have time for that, but we MAKE time by helping finish someone with their task so that they can come help you with yours.
So, yeah, I believe 100% that you are understaffed. Most of us are. You're not alone.

We do work as a team and it is the only thing that keeps any of us sane. Just nice to know it not just our facility

It's hard.
Just tonight, we had 4 aides (when 8 is fully staffed). That left us with 21 total care residents apiece. I feel your pain.

this is a solid truth!
if every aide had this mentality, everything would get done and done with quality.
we used to take on pt's and tasks that weren't ours, all the time, because the favor would always be returned... makes for happier aides and pts!
cheers!
