Hi, 28 year old male working towards second degree for nursing at the moment. In the midst of completing my prerequisites. Hoping to be done by the age of 32 hopefully younger than that. I have about 5 year's of patient care experience currently under my belt: 3 year's with EMS; a year working in the OR; 3 year's working in psych.
I am going the BSN route because the hospital I currently work at only takes nurse's with a BSN. I know I can graduate and complete the program have good support via co-workers and family. I am guaranteed a job once I graduate with the hospital being per diem, part time, or full time hopefully. However, my true end goal with my nursing degree is to be a nurse in the Navy. With cuts being made who knows if it could happen, but worth a shot.
From June to August of 2014 I saw a psychologist. Then in the end of October 2014 to end of May 2015 saw a psychiatrist. Was placed on medication ended the treatment and stopped medication. Really had no reason to Friend noticed wasn't sleeping much, hectic schedule, recommended I go see the Doc and I did. First Doc was great, but being out of pocket went to a psychiatrist who put me on medication. Really had no need to be on medication made me sleep ha. Believe diagnosed with situational depression and possibly SAD, my vitamin D count was below the 20 threshold. However, that was it just 8 month's never had any issue after that never wanted to kill or hurt myself. Is this going to be a thorn in my side in joining the Navy?
Not sure if it helps volunteered for three year's on an ambulance. In the process of going back for my EMT looking to volunteer again. On top of that clearing up my debt mostly for school credit is semi okay about a 740-750 hoping to get it back up to 800. I know will be fine during nursing school, but those three to four year's in school will that be a strong factor in demonstrating no issue's regarding my mental health.
I am pretty fit besides occasional seasonal allergies. I workout, I am avid runner, good swimmer, and I love to hike. In process of losing a few pound's.
