I'm taking a Compostion class and I'm doing pretty well, though I need help with checking my grammar. Does anyone know of any software or a download that checks grammar in english papers? Being out of school for 25 years I need help. Would appreciate any feed back.

Microsoft Word has a grammar check. It isn't perfect, but it will catch verb tenses, etc.

Unfortunately, it's really hard to write a good grammar check program because the rules aren't as hard and fast as, say, spelling. Some word processing software comes with a grammar checker in it, like spellcheck. IMO, they're confusing and pick up things that aren't errors at all, miss a lot of things that are, and basically render the finished product unreadable. Unless you have a truly poor grasp of the language, you're often better off before you run the check. Grammar doesn't function on a binary, if/then level, the way computers do. That having been said, I'd be happy to help you out, if you'd like. I was a copyeditor in a former life, and I could PM you my email address.

In addition to all of the above, have you thought about just getting a copy of Strunk & White or one of the other grammar/style manuals and just brushing up your grammar? That will be of more benefit to you in the long run ...

You might also want to check out your college or university's Student Resource Center. Most often they have a writing center that will edit your papers for free but you usually have to give them a week to get it done.
Hope this helps.
