If I complete my ABSN at an accredited university in Idaho and sit for the NCLEX in Idaho, will I encounter any issues endorsing to Calfornia? All of my labs have been real in person labs, and all courses have been at legitimate accredited schools. I am applying for my program now, and did not know that I may have to (or if I need to) consider the number of clinical hours included in the program? My ABSN is 12 months full time with a VERY heavy credit load and clinicals begin in the first semester. Thank you for any guidance at all.

Hi, I wasn't able to get much clarification beyond being advised I would receive a letter telling me what to do if my education doesn't meet their requirements, if and when I attempt to license there. Please let us know if you are able to get more information.
Hey! Wondering if you ever got an update from this? I am going to be applying to programs this fall (Jan 2026 submissions). Will be applying to Cal State LA, CSUSM, Regis in Denver, Drexel, Idaho State, Pacific Lutheran, Montana State. PLU is my backup school, not sure about it right now given their low clinical hours. I want to stay in the PNW area, and therefore was thinking of Idaho State. Need the school to be approved for Washington, Oregon, California...it's scary to think some schools aren't especially cause all of these are like actually schools!!

I didn't get a definitive answer but am in the ABSN. I don't expect a problem with California, but may go there for NCLEX to make it easier.
OK cool! Do you enjoy the program? Do you think the pacing of a 12 month vs 15/16 month program is too fast? I am originally from PA but currently living in Vancouver (BC). Wouldn't go back to PA to take the exam. I don't know how it works when you go to another state to take the exam but I am assuming you have to be a resident of that state to do so. What was the answer you got from them?
The other program I'm considering is Samuel Merritt, but the ones I listed above are so much cheaper (86k vs ~50k) that I'm not sure if it's worth the big bucks even though a lot of the graduates from there end up in California RN roles.

I do enjoy it! Wrapping up 18 credits in 12 weeks, thats a bit rough, but it's a solid program
California BON couldn't give a definitive answer, but if for some reason the program is deficient any clinical hours they will direct me to take a class. I honestly don't think that will be the case. I will double check but I think we can take the NCLEX wherever we want. I'm not sure what tuition is for out of state non western compact.

I did an ABSN in Florida, sat for my boards in the Northeast and then endorsed into California.
