Hi, I have had a job offered to me if I come to CA and get RN license by endorsement.
All systems were go until I did some reading at the CA BON website.
They seem particularly concerned about DUIs - even require you to disclose them if they have been expunged (removed from your record, legally.)
I have some DUIs on my background check. They were all in the same year, over ten years ago. Two of them were dismissed.
I was going to go to Sacramento and do the walk-through, but now I don't dare without more info.
There's no way I'm going out there and showing up at the board, only to be turned down for a temp. license.
I've never had any problems at my original state of licensure or anywhere else. The only reason they occurred was because my Mother passed away after a long illness and I had depression and trouble dealing with her passing.
I have NOTHING since then.
I thought if you had no felonies you were pretty much in the clear, but they even want convictions that have been expunged??? WTH?
Does CA need nurses or not?
I guess the reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anyone else has gone through this, and what they had to go through, what they had to submit, and how it turned out.

I am wondering the same thing, disclosing expunged records?????? What's with this? No one other than nurses have to disclose this to employers. I did read on a post somewhere, I think it was one about impaired nurses. It said California was one of 6 states that would consider a conviction by case.
I have been going through a hassle with the MD BON. I took me 3 months to get them to send "Board Certified records." Not only were some of things they sent bogus, but they said I had gone there and signed a CONSENT that admitted all guilt etc. It's going to be very hard to prove, because I never received the letters and I have the addressess and the dates they claim on credit reports, and they don't. I'm waiting to see which "address" they sent the letters to.
What I'm leading up to is the fact that they just ignore me. So I joined this pre-paid legal service for $16 a month. You can talk to them all you want and they will write letters for you which sometimes is all you really need. They will answer a lawyer.
You have never had a problem with your other license states, but of course they are different from state to state.
If you did get this pre-paid legal, you could find out all the questions you are asking here.
But from what I have read on the net, it seems like you have a better chance than other states. Probably the 10 years is in your favor too. Don't go there until you get solid information.
Let us know what you do.
