  1. Hi, I have had a job offered to me if I come to CA and get RN license by endorsement. All systems were go until I did some reading at the CA BON website. They seem particularly concerned about DUIs - even require you to disclose them if they have been expunged (removed from your record, legally.) I have some DUIs on my background check. They were all in the same year, over ten years ago. Two of them were dismissed. I was going to go to Sacramento and do the walk-through, but now I don't dare without more info. There's no way I'm going out there and showing up at the board, only to be turned down for a temp. license. I've never had any problems at my original state of licensure or anywhere else. The only reason they occurred was because my Mother passed away after a long illness and I had depression and trouble dealing with her passing. I have NOTHING since then. I thought if you had no felonies you were pretty much in the clear, but they even want convictions that have been expunged??? WTH? Does CA need nurses or not? I guess the reason I am posting this is because I am wondering if anyone else has gone through this, and what they had to go through, what they had to submit, and how it turned out.
  2. I don't understand why the hue and cry against team nursing. They've gone to primary where I worked and the RN has ten to twelve patients on a busy M/S floor. They do meds, IVs, insulins, BEDBATHS.....preps for procedures.....and who the {bleep} knows what else.....on ten to twelve patients per nurse? When I worked there we did team nursing. I ALWAYS had eleven patients, that was BAD ENOUGH, but AT THE VERY LEAST I had a CNA to do I & O's, transfers, baths, etc. If we were VERY VERY LUCKY, we had an LPN to do the PO meds. Even with someone doing PO meds and a CNA we worked our butts off....and this was on nights. How anyone can want primary nursing is beyond my comprehension. All that is is an excuse to get rid of the RN's helpers and load the RN down with more work......I don't get it. :uhoh21:

  4. I am about to lose my mind. It has been nearly a YEAR since I had a job. Everytime I think I have one, it falls through. Nursing recruiters are just in it for the $$$ and are full of hot air. When I try to bypass them and go directly through the hospital they seem hesitant to give me a FIRM offer. Do they want to use AGENCY NURSES that bad? Travel nurses? I can't even do that, because where I live there are no travel nurses and due to my not having worked for a year (for family reasons), alot of travel companies won't hire me. Even if they did, I cannot get anywhere, my car is old and *SURPRISE!* I found out today that we have not had any car insurance since JULY! Nobody bothered to tell us. Our agent throws the blame on the company and the company throws the blame on the agent, and meanwhile we have no car insurance now, which will make getting some very, very expensive, and we have a collections letter FROM THE COMPANY for one-hundred dollars they claim we owe because we didn't HAVE car insurance....and the reason we don't HAVE car insurance is because the change of bank draft notice never GOT FAXED TO THE MAIN OFFICE so how the #### is that OUR fault and why do WE have to pay a collections agency??? :angryfire Signed, Screwed!
  5. Hello. I still can't believe this. I'm an RN with a background in Med/Surg. I ran into a nurse I used to work with and this is what the 400+ bed hospital I used to work at is doing now: the M/S unit has over 30 beds. The RNs are doing primary care on ten to twelve patients apiece - regularly! I asked her if they had a LPN to do PO meds - she said no; that the LPN takes her own group of patients! So you're talking 3 nurses for over thirty patients. She said IF they had a nurse aide, it was only one, "to pass ice." She said they have to do bed baths, PO meds, IV meds, everything!!! This hospital is/was being investigated on another matter. I am thinking seriously of calling the state Ombudsman to report them. Is that who you are supposed to call to report something like this? I thought it was bad when I was there............but this? It's insane!
