endorsement to NJ

Published

Hello,

I have already passed the NCLEX exam for the California BON. However, since I am not an immigrant, the California BON has not issued me a license/license number. I also do not have a social security number.

I would like to apply for a license in NJ but I understand that I cannot apply for an endorsement since there is no license to endorse.

However, I would like to know if it is possible to transfer my NCLEX results from California to New Jersey and obtain a license from that state?

Thank you.

It is possible to transfer NCLEX results from CA to another state but whether state will issue a license is up to the state and whether a SSN is required or not. You usually have to apply by exam and arrange (for a small fee) CA to forward results

Once you find a state that will issue a license with out a ss# make sure that you start searching for reputable places that offer CEUs that's accepted by your state. You can usually contact the state board and they will either have a list on their website or they will tell you which ones are accepted. You also want to make sure that choose a state that will renew your license with out a ss#. There are some states that might issue one with out a ss# and might not renew with out one. Also make sure you gain experience in nursing in your home country if you're not working already. It would be a shame to have ZERO paid experience as a RN in your home country and then come to the US as you will be considered outdated. Good Luck

Hello Silverdragon,

Is this process possible for New Jersey?

I know that they don't issue a license until after you complete their criminal background screening but at least my NCLEX results will not expire... Is that correct?

Thank you

My suggestion is to read the board of nursing website of NJ regarding reciprocity. You maybe able to have a NJ w/o taking another NCLEX.

NJ does require criminal background check.

Only CA destroys your file resulting in loss of NCLEX results other states will keep your file active if they do not issue a license without a SSN. As mentioned by the previous poster you need to check with the BON themselves and see what they have posted on their website or alternatively contact them

I emailed them and this is what they said,

"You can only apply for Endorsement if you have a license in another state. If California hasn't issued you a license, you wouldn't be able to apply for Endorsement. Also, if you took the NCLEX for California, you must comply with their requirements to obtain their license."

Technically, I won't be applying for endorsement but for licensure by examination. The only difference is that California will be forwarding my results. I'll be completing NJ BON's requirements for examination and when it's been approved, Ca will forward my NCLEX results.

This process isn't mentioned by NJ BON although, it has been talked about (somewhat) in the forums. I just need final confirmation. Is this possible?

Thank you.

This is something we have been saying for a long time, if CA do not issue a license (which they don't without a SSN) then you can not endorse as no license. So you need to apply by license and get your NCLEX results forwarded to the new state and that what many other members have done with no problems

Hi plteialmtr, I see these posting are kinda old, but I would like to know if you ended up applying in nj.... I know they dont issue a license without ssn....

I have applied here first, I do have a SSN, but I'm not a immigrant yet, so they haven't issued my license......

I'm trying to apply to another state, but I can't get them to forward my results either, i don't know what to do
