Endorsement in FL for the Computer Illiterate

U.S.A. Florida

Published

My dad's girlfriend lives in IL. She has been a nurse for over 30 years. She is the sweetest lady in the world. She wants to move to FL to be with my dad (he cannot move due to work and child-related reasons).

She may be sweet, but by her own admission she is computer illiterate. I am sure she can handle it for charting or whatever, however when it comes to even simple things like email she is completely lost. She gets easily overwhelmed by technology! Because I am a former nursing student, they asked me to help them find out about endorsement. I have found that to transfer your license to FL you have to take some sort of online class. Must it be online? What does it entail? How much time does it take? She likely wouldn't be able to do it on her own, so is it something we could meet in a coffee shop and go over together on the iPad, or no, or is it a bit more intense than that?

Please give us some guidance! Thank you so much!

You just have to look at Florida Board of Nursing and it will give you all the info. I don't remember an online "class." I do know you have to have certain CEUs like medical errors, so maybe that is what she is referring to.

Specializes in Critical Care, ED, Cath lab, CTPAC,Trauma.

Specializes in ICU, CM, Geriatrics, Management.

Don't think the class must be taken online. But it sure seems like the easiest way to go.

Maybe with a little coaching and some hands-on, technical assistance from the OP, the nurse involved can get through it.

It'll make for a real romantic ending!

Let us know how it all turns out.
