Hello all fellow nurses. I endorsed my out of state LPN license to obtain a Cal LVN license. After a long wait and several glitches with the board in Sacramento, I finally got the endorsed license in the mail. I see it is a plastic card license and not paper which is nice. But.. I found out later after inquiring about positions via phone that an endorsed license does not have IV cert on the license and all local original licensee have IV cert automatically printed on the license. Called the board and was told that Cal doesn't accept out of state IV certs. I would have to take/attend another IV cert course for it to finally be ADDED onto my license. Now it seems like all I went through to get the endorsement is null and void as most employers want that IV cert on your license. It's usually a requirement along with CPR cert to be hired. Any light on the subject here? Am I considered "unemployable" because the IV cert isn't stamped on my license?

No, you are not unemployable in CA, but if you want to be considered when they demand IV cert, you will have to comply with what the board told you.

Take the IV Cert class that meets CA requirement. What an IV Cert LVN can do in CA may not be what one can do in Texas, Nevada, New York etc.

In my state, a lot of BON-approved courses allow you the option of challenging, which would be a much cheaper option than taking the whole course again. It might be worth studying up on the state specific protocols that you need to know to test out and go that route.
