Endocrine Class ideas

Hi everyone! I am relatively new to the teaching role and I am supposed to teach endocrine again this summer. I taught it last summer and the students had a really hard time with that section (I remember it being hard when I was in school too!). Does anyone have any resources or ideas that I could use to make it easier to understand for them? Thanks!!

    Never taught it, but I remember that it was difficult because so much information has to be learned. Kinda overwhelming. I recommend concept maps to show the relationship between endocrine and other organs. This helps to connect the dots and shows how abnormal labs can help identify problems. Wish I had more concrete data for you.

    Hate to beat a dead horse, but concept maps / graphic organizers are great for this type of topic in which feedback mechanisms and the interplay of several organs are so prominent.

    When teaching endocrine disorders in pediatrics, I start the class with letting them all know that they have just been given the diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes. I then have each student check their blood glucose and hand them an envelope with different blood sugar reading to draw from during the class. We then go into the mechanisms of T1D and randomly throughout the day I will have an alarm go off and they "check" their glucose and make note on the amount of insulin and any interventions. This continues throughout the entire class as we discuss other issues with the endocrine system as well.
