Ending Travel Nursing Contract

Published

Hello all,

I have 1.5 weeks left on my med/surg travel contract, and I really cannot finish the rest of it because of mental health issues. The burnout had triggered anxiety/panic/depression that I had under control for years. I've overcome my mental health struggles to get through school and to not shirk my responsibilities. This time just feels so different, so much worse. On the upside, I have a position lined up for me at home that I am super looking forward to.

I just had to call out tonight and will be in contact with my provider in the morning. I know the next step is contacting my recruiter...
Should I mention the mental health aspect? Any advice?

Thank you all for reading, I know it's tough for everyone out here.

I think I would just say I am sick... there does not need to be a reason. Some people have physical ailments others have mental, I would not go into details.

Hopefully your provider will help assist you in coming to the right decision. While I cannot properly view your perspective, it is difficult to believe you cannot finish a week and a half on your assignment but are happily looking forward to starting a new job.

You don't have to tell your agency anything, but it is professional to notify both them and your assignment manager. Your health issues don't change your contract and your agency can hold you to the financial requirements of not finishing your assignment. Your permanent job will be much better about health needs and days off. Travel is don't work, don't get paid, and often have to pay to not work if ill.
