Hello everyone. it's my first post in this forum, and I hope Im in the right forum. My question is the following. I want to become an EMT and work in ER,now, I hear EMTs can't do too much when your a basic, how can one get to intermediate level?,can I take a medical assistant course,or phlebotomy alone or EKG courses and also can I use these skills while in the ambulance. I know,I'm not an EMT yet,but I just want to be informed, what other skills I can add to EMT,thank you all for your help.
No worries. So, you live in Albuquerque? You are in the military? I have several friends up that way from my prior military experiences. Several of my friends based out of RTI in Santa Fe are currently deployed in Iraq.
No, we live in Santa Fe. I fly occasionally for an outfit in ABQ. I haven't been active duty military in many years, though I still miss it. I was a combat medic and evacuation medic and small-team medic specialist during my younger years in Israel in the 80s. I almost taught part of the paramedic pipeline at Kirtland AFB, but turned it down after guest teaching when they said they only wanted a full-timer. I wasn't going to give up my flight job at the time. I work in the ED in Santa Fe, as well.
So, when you're Stateside, you work the south end of the state? I've hiked in the Gila; very pretty area.
Stay safe out there!
Yeah, I fly for a company down south and pull PRN ER shifts as well. Just back stateside until the end of this month. So, you work at Saint V's in Santa Fe? From my experience, it is a nice facility. Evacuated a guy who sustained trauma from a rappelling accident while we were on exercise some years back and the hospital provided quality care for the soldier. Santa Fe is pretty nice as well. The people are rather artsy fartsy and the cost of living seems high; however, I always liked the area when I was on assignment at RTI.
