EMT-P looking to get RN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello

I am a paramedic working in the field. I have only been a paramedic for a year and for a few reasons have decided to look into becoming a RN. I do not know where to begin!

I have heard many coworkers and friends talk about paramedic to RN bridge programs and I am willing to move out of state in order to get the right education (CA doesn't offer these programs). But I do not know if that is the right move for me. I plan to continue working as a medic while going to school, so I would only continue to gain experience as I went through a program like this.

My questions are... Do I need to get a bachelors in nursing in addition to going to a program like a medic to RN bridge? Also if there is anyone familiar with making the move from EMT-P to RN - is it smarter to take the bridge program or try and get into a straight RN program?

Thanks in advance.

Really I am just looking for someone to help point me in the right direction here. I need to figure out how to get started towards my RN. I am a paramedic, I am not sure if I need to look at bridge programs that take into account my paramedic knowledge/experience, or if I should be looking at starting a nursing program from the ground up.

I also have no clue all these pre req this and pre req that has me a bit flustered. Do I need a bachelors degree to get into a nursing program? Do I need a Bachelors to finish RN school?

I do not have a degree, at the moment I am at a community college taking classes to get an AA degree. Do I need to make sure that degree is in something specific, or just make sure I take micro and other pre reqs I see are common throughout most programs.....

I am just so flustered. Any help pointing me in the right direction will help out a ton. Thanks!

I wouldn't get so caught up in the paramedic deal as it has literally almost nothing to do with nursing. Focus on what your goal is: To become an RN. Prioritize and execute.

You need to start ground up. Talk with the school where you want to attend about starting nursing pre reqs and ultimately how to apply for the nursing program. Getting a BSN will more than likely open more doors for you, but at least getting your associates an RN is a good start This is not going to happen quick so relax and start one step at a time. "coworkers and friends" are great, but get actual facts from the school you want to attend.

There are some schools that offer bridge programs. It's up to you if it's worth it to move. It's tough to know what is the right choice somethings. I suggest calling schools and seeing what they say in terms of cost & length of program.

Thank you. I'm willing to make a move if need be. It seems like most EMT-P to RN bridge are out of CA anyways. I just need some direction.. I don't know if that route is viable in terms of hiring after getting done. I still have my National Registry so I can move if I need to, and I would be able to live out there on my own without support.

Thanks
