If anyone could provide me with some advice or information, I would greatly appreciate it!...
I currently live in Norfolk, VA and would like to relocate to the Richmond area. I have applied multiple times to VCUHS online, and have received absolutely no response whatsoever. While I am still a new-ish nurse (almost 2 yrs experience in MedSurg), I graduated magna cum laude in nursing school, I am one semester away from getting my BSN (through VCU, I might add), and have been awarded a nurse excellence award through my current employer. I am just Very surprised I haven't heard a thing.
Should I be driving up to Richmond to go to the HR office and hand in my paper resume, or would this be a waste of time?
I would REALLY like to transition to an ICU position, preferrably surgery/trauma.. What is the likelihood of that happening considering I do not have any previous critical care experience?
Also, could anyone tell me what the going hourly rate is at VCU for RNs with a bit of experience? How about shift diff for weekends, nights, or weekend nights?
I am really only interested with employement with VCUHS at this time...
Thanks in advance!!!

I worked for the VCU-MCVH sysytem for 17 years, starting as anew grad on North 5,then to Tele SDu, then to cardiac medicine ICU. This was a wonderful place to work, good pay, great benefits. When Iworked there and I believ it still to be so if tyou have insurance thru them and are treated by MCV MDs care is free after minimal copay. My husband had a compund fracture of wrist operated on by Dr Adelaar, he has 95% percent use of it and it cost $20 copay. There is also so much opportunity to learn, to particpate. GO for IT!

Be persistent! It takes a big hospital system awhile before they get around to you but also know that there are probably 80 other applicants that have applied for that same position. I would recommend calling the nurse recruiter. Or possibly even finding out who the manager is for the unit you are interested in and send an email.
Pay is based on a matrix depending on criteria ie years of experience and type of degree Differentials are good especially if you work weekend nights.
Again I say be persistent if this is the place you really want to work for.
Good Luck!
Thanks for the advice! I wish I had my BSN done by now, I have a feeling they would be more responsive to me if I did. I think I may just try to get the nurse manager's email address and forward her/him my resume. That was how I got my first job (why does it seem that recruiters are a total waste of time? LoL) Thanks again for the advice!
Hey Nakeia,
I would like to PM you to ask you more questions, but I haven't posted enough to use that function yet. Could you tell me, however, what the differential pays are? Specifically weekends, nights, and weekend nights? Thanks! I just want to see if it is comparable to what I am making now. I know my base pay is low, but my weekend night diff at Sentara is pretty good.... Just trying to see if the grass would be greener :)
