Emory D-ABSN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey everyone, so I just stumbled upon the new(ish) Emory distance ABSN program! I was so excited to finally have found a program like this since I live in a rural area and there aren’t many local options. Plus, relocation wasn’t an option. I’ve still got a bunch of hoops to jump through but I guess I started to hesitate when I saw the $70k tuition!! Now, that may not be a lot to some of you but where we live that is a HUGE investment. I guess I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place in that my family could never afford for me to be in school for a regular 4 year program and even an accelerated program that is an hour and a half away is over 18 months. So although this would be the most expensive option it also is the quickest and would work well with my current situation. So please, anyone, tell me why YOU want to go to Emory versus other options??

And if there’s anyone out there that has completed the prerequisite courses I’d love suggestions on where to take them online.

For anyone that’s in the program now how is it going? What’s your daily schedule like?

And lastly, there is an EMT certification class being offered near me soon. Do you think this would be a good thing to do? I’d still have to get my CNA certification as well.

Sorry for the long post but thanks for reading this far!

Hi, applied in July for January 2020. My prerequisites were checked. They told me decisions will be posted August 15. But nothing so far. Did you hear back? Thanks.

@gsfes Jan 2020 for Distance ABSN? I know that ABSN-MSN Summer 2020 was release yesterday, but D-ABSN has no date from what I was told (It was still in review and to be patient) and that was Monday.

Thanks yes Distance ABSN. I should have misunderstood. Thanks!

I am also awaiting a decision for Jan 2020. I called a few days ago, because I noticed no change was made in my app status (I have everything except Chemistry) and was also told a decision would be announced on the 16th. But the person that answered simply updated my checklist right there on the phone and told me there is no set date for decisions. Also, I was told the TEAs are required regardless of having an advanced degree. I also have a masters. But, seems like the info hasn't been consistent so that could wrong, too.

Please share if you guys get any updates. Good luck, guys!

@jesuisroc Who told you the 16th? 16th of Nov? I was told no dates set for release of decisions for Jan 2020

There has been some changes, if some remember there was a CNA license requirement but its not a requirement, but "highly recommended"

So hearing the TEAS is required isn't surprising. I was under the impression I could wave it since I did have a graduate degree. I will get to studying ?

If Im not mistaken I think the TEAS score has to be over 90%

I’m sorry I’ve been busy and forgot to post here! There was a webinar about the program last Thursday the 15th and they answered some questions.... I thought they said they would post the webinar on the website but I don’t see that they did. Anyway, they said the applications are with the review committee and no decisions have been made yet and they didn’t say when. So I don’t know how soon they expect to have decisions but the wait is agonizing!

@NurseKev8 Thanks for update. Did they clarify requirements for D-ABSN. There has been some changes since the beginning of the year when I looked. For instance CNA

@jebeh2018 they did say that about the cna, yes. I don’t think they said anything else that I wasn’t already aware of... let me check when I’m at my computer because I think it recorded so hopefully I can rewatch it. I’ll let you know

@NurseKev8 thanks a bunch! Especially with regards to standardized testing requirements, Interviews required?

@jebeh2018 No more interviews they said! They are no longer a part of the process. I couldn't find a recording anywhere but I did screenshot some pages and the admissions slide says: official transcripts, standardized test sc ore (SAT, ACT, GRE or TEAS), Personal statement (not required but in our best interest they said), Resume, 3.2 min GPA (But they did say it's a holistic review and therefore lower GPA's are still considered - maybe same goes for test scores?)

Maybe you should call to verify about the test scores? I scheduled last minute and studied for the TEAS for about a week and did pretty well, they weren't bad!

I was emailed by a rep saying the 16th of August, actually. When the day passed with no word, I called and was told by another rep that there was actually NO date set yet.

What states is everyone applying from?
