I will graduate on May 18th, and I was offered a graduate RN position at an ED in a hospital close to me. I worked there last year as a sitter, and put a 2 week notice in November 2011. I had to call out a day during my 2 week notice due to my daughter being sick, and now that I have been offered the position there the recruiter informed me that my account there says that I am not eligible for rehire. I have worked so hard to get this position and it is my dream job. The recruiter has sent in paperwork to try and have this decision overturned and I am waiting to hear the status on it, but my nerves and stress level are through the roof!!!

Do you think the decision will easily be resolved, or do you think my dream job which i was offered will be ripped away? I have never had a dream so close and yet be so far away.

Well, if you want it that badly, I'd be in contact with HR and the ER director to get that situation resolved. Be honest and explain yourself and what happened. If they are going to be so strict as to not rehire you because of that, especially after you've told them what happened and how much this new job would mean to you, you have to ask yourself if you really want to work for them. Just my 0.02!

What a crock!!! I'm sorry what a mean thing to do to someone......you old boss is a......I can't say due to TOS about foul language. I would be in contact with the HR and the ED director and who ever offered you the position in the first place that as a new graduate in another position you are responsible and realize the importance of attendance but it was extenuating circumstances that was totally coincident to you leaving. That this is your dream job and you will be an asset to their team.

But if they stick to their guns....I agree with the previous poster, do you really want to work for a place so quick to chuck you down the drain.

I wish you good luck!

Well, thats quite a conundrum. From a supervisory stand point most of the problems a department has is due to attendance. HR erred by even letting your file get to the interview stage, so now they are kind of stuck. What I would personally do, would be to allow you to come onboard with the condition that you not miss any days of work for set period of time, maybe in excess of the standard attendance policy. Now I would be reasonable, if you were somehow were to be injured or exposed on the job that would be the one exception. Once you have shown that the past discretion is not likely to repeat, I would treat you like any other staff, as a valued member of the team.

Thank you guys. The recruiter that contacted me to offer me the job has already put in request to HR. I am waiting for a call from HR and the recruiter told me that if I have not heard from them by monday to call her back because she wants to get this resolved.

When the person from HR calls I am going to explain that I would never call out unless I absolutely had no other choice and that it was just a coincidence that it was during my 2 week notice. I am also going to explain that she may contact my current employer regarding my attendance and my employer before them (where I worked for 3 1/2 years without missing one day).
