Eligibility in Nova Scotia

World International

Hi guys!

I just received my eligibility to write CRNE in NS (Thank God!) but I am a little confused if I am still going to take the competency assessment or not. This is what the letter stated.

The College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (the College) is pleased to advise you that you

are now eligible to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) and apply for a

temporary licence.

The CRNE is:

1. Offered three times per year, February, June and October.

2. The next writing of the exam is February 2, 2011. You can apply after October 6, 2010.

3. If you are planning to write on this date, please apply and pay the fee of $539.32 by credit

card on our website: Nurses > Registration > RN Examination Registration by

November 26, 2010. Payment can also be made through international money order.

4. Your identification card and information regarding the CRNE will be mailed to you about 2-

3 weeks before the exam date.

5. You will have three opportunities to pass the exam in the twenty-four (24) month period

following the date of this letter (By-Laws College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia,

2009).

REGISTRATION AND NURSE PRACTITIONER EXAMINATIONS

Candidates shall have a maximum of three (3) opportunities to pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination in

the twenty-four (24) month period immediately following their eligibility to write, and candidates shall not be

permitted to further write the registration examination without

(a) providing evidence of extenuating circumstances;

(b) retaking a nursing education program; or

© successfully completing a competence assessment, at the candidate's expense.

I am just a little bit confused regarding the statement No. 5. It's not quite clear to me. By the way, I am here in the Philippines and I dont know yet what would be my next step after receiving my eligibility. For now, I am planning to look for a prospective employer first in NS before I'll take CRNE. Would you suggest other options??

Thank you!

There is only approx a week left until the new fees come into effect and no guarantee that application is accepted by that date. Everything here re nursing appears expensive, I have just renewed my license for the next 12 months and cost me $450 ish the good thing is I should be able to claim something back via tax form next year, hope so because this year has cost me a lot what with $600 (524 plus tax) just to sit the exam and then another $150 just for 3 month license as I qualified in the June exam plus a few other expenses that I accrued

thanks for the suggestion dvsbec! I was thinking to do that but I guess the CRNNS won't consider it. Because the IELTS is one of the basic requirements. I will be taking the IELTS exam on the 30th and will be waiting 2 weeks before I could get the results. Wheew! I guess I just have to conform to the new fee... I will just cross my fingers to be eligible to sit the CRNE.

Dacboo - i applied back in march, approved to sit CRNE in april. Haven't sat the exam yet - all things going well, hopefully will be able to sit in Feb when we're there.

I saw the cost had increased considerably for IEN's. I'm wondering if you could apply now (when the cost is less) and forward the IELTS results once you've done that? I'm not sure if it can work that way - is just a thought....

Thanks for the info.I am also a R.N here in the Philippines,my friend last week who work as a R.N in Canada for 2 years, recommends 3 provinces only Saskatchewan,Manitoba and N.S.She told me specifically, this provinces were the fastest in terms of processing for eligibility and assessment, but what i have learned here that Saskatchewan was quite the opposite.

I already lodged my papers to the embassy yesterday(thank God),and i am starting to review for Academic-Ielts:yeah: today and hopefully,I can start to apply in N.S by December or early next year.

I just learned that effective Jan.01, 2011, the IELTS score requirements have changed. How frustrating. my overall band score is 7.5. Listening, Reading, and Speaking - 8 but Writing is 6.5. How unfortunate of me. The new Writing score requirement is already 7! wheew! Need to take the IELTS again...

This includes SK as well... I think for other provinces too. Have not checked their websites though...
