Hi y'all!! 2 year member here, first time poster!
To make a long story short, nursing has been my career of choice for a VERY, very long time. I finally have the opportunity, help, and support I needed to pursue my career/goal with consistency!
Anyway, I am stuck trying to pick the best/right courses for my electives requirement. I currently attend a community college to finish up my basics, and will be applying to BSN programs around this time next year.
I am curious to know what electives did you guys take or plan on taking?
Thanks in advance for any insight/opinion/shared experience!

This is going to be my last semester of pre-req courses, then I can apply. However, I am still going to take 3 more classes in the Spring that I think might come in handy in the future. They are Medical Terminology, First Aid, and an intro Spanish course with a focus on medical-type words. With the First Aid, I'll be able to get the BLS upon completing it, and while I believe I can get it in Nursing School proper, I figure it might be good to get it before starting so I don't need to spend additional time on it later.
Ahhh, how good it must feel to finally step into the next phase! How many programs will you be applying to? ....those sound like good courses. I've taken medical terminology, but it was as a non-credit course (they call it continuing education in my school). The Spanish course will definitely work in your favor when working as well. So from what I understand these are extras, right? Did you have to take any electives? or it's not required for the nursing programs in your area? Oh and I think getting the BLS before is definitely a good idea! I believe my top choices require it before applying, but I'm not sure.
I got some ideas on another thread as well: Adolescent psyc, human sexuality, alcohol/drug related courses...
I'm just applying to one program. I know a number of the faculty as their other roles (some have been my doctors for several years and other healthcare providers who are also professors/assistant professors/other faculty), who have said that they are more than happy to provide letters of recommendation/reference, should I need them, as well as other bits of help.
And yes, the three courses I listed are extras; they're not needed for the program, but I figure that they should help sort of "prime" my memory for what's to come. As for electives, I can't think of anything like that that I had to take (or maybe there are, but I think of them as something else...?).
Those courses you listed seem like they'd be of benefit to not only nursing, but really any healthcare-related field.

I took medical terminology and a phlebotomy course as extra courses outside of pre-reqs. Both have been incredibly helpful as I'm in an accelerated program.
I guess depending on when I apply/start a nursing program I might have the time to take extra courses too. If I do, phlebotomy would be a good choice as well.
