congratulations! to everyone that is starting in january!
i'm so excited to meet everyone-please introduce yourself!
:groupwelcome:
I have my check off tomorrow morning, first-thing. But I am a bit confused on the initial flush...
When making the first water flush (prior to formula), is it performed with the plunger and syringe intact or is it with just the syringe as a gravity flush?
The video shows it one way and we have all been practicing it a different way in lab. We only saw one demo and I forget how the prof did it.
Thanks!
Well, I just finished and passed. I forgot to put my gloves on until halfway through, as I reached in my pocket and felt them - ARGH. Oh well, I got a 96 so I am happy.
And yes, we had to do a gravity flush, not a syringe/plunger push. Interesting huh? The videos and books say to use the plunger/syringe. Oh well, gotta do what the professor wants huh.
Uh, its going to be a very long one for me. I just failed my 2nd ck off! I got screwed on the narcotic IM ck off- so not fair that some got to ck off doing reconstitution (that's easy) OH WELL---this is life- I can still re ck off and get a 78 right?
What happens if you fail the 2nd time? or should I even ask?
I'm so sorry, Spill. I know it's not a good feeling at all.
Hoping to make you feel a little better, many people fail the IM check-off the first time. It takes soooooo much practice to do it as a check-off....with your hands shaking and all that! :) We were told last semester that they expect people to not pass the IM the first time, it's been that way for a long time. So, they understand.
You will recheck for a 78. If by chance you do not pass that one, they will give you a 'contract'. You have to pass the 3rd one, if you didn't pass the 2nd one. There are only 3 tries.
Stay focused, and practice, practice, practice! Ask other students in your clinical group to help you. Practice at home until you know it like the back of your hand.
Practice/study at the same time as studying, if you need to, but practice, practice, practice!
Refill your bottles, etc with water if needed, and keep practicing both reconstitution and narcotic...you never know what you will get retested with.
Most importantly....STAY POSITIVE! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey Spill - what part did you have trouble with on the narcotic-anti-emetic? I failed one check-off last semester. You fill out a paper, have to go to the skills lab to practice and get it signed, and write a statement as to why you think you failed. It's goofy, but whatever. You will do fine on your second one. Give me a yell if there is anything I can do to help...
