Hi guys!
I was wondering if anyone else had applied to the El Centro Methodist Nursing Program for the Fall 2013?
Letters go out in 2 days!!
Wish the best of luck to everyone that applied!
I started working as a volunteer at Methodist in July of 2012. Didn't hit the 6 month eligibility for Spring 2013 and had to wait until the May 31 deadline for this upcoming 2013 Fall semester. I worked as a volunteer for now a year in a Methodist department, where I visit the waiting rooms and new patients to provide info on and sign them up for one of their resource programs. Since I have a heavy marketing background, I loved it and was quite good at it. I was told by the director of volunteer services, that because I was working strictly for this department, they would be completing an submitting the evaluation when I applied to the program.
I was contacted by El Centro Program administrator at Methodist that I had made the initial list from El centro and they would be interviewing everyone on the list once the evaluations were received back from the department heads. I followed up with a phone call 2 weeks later when I did not receive a time to interview and I was told I was eliminated because of a bad evaluation. I was floored. I had received several written "great" recommendations from patients and their family and I felt sure my department would have provide me a good evaluation. After talking to my department head, I found out they had not even contacted to provide an evaluation and it was the volunteer director on her own who had done so and why? I believe it relates back to when the volunteer director confronted me about a post I made on facebook she claimed reflecting a bias against the republicans party and suggested I take volunteer at Methodist off my profile. However, I am 58 years old so perhaps it's age discrimination.
My department head has offered to sit down with the me and the volunteer director and address the bad evaluation, but it's already too late to do anything about getting into the program and the thought staying another 4-5 months just so I can reapply in the fall for the 2014 spring semester isn't attractive to me. However, l have become very close to the people in my department at Methodist. They treated me great and I really enjoyed the experience so I'm torn as to if and/or how to quit diplomatically.
Plan B - I am confident my 26 points would get me into the straight El Centro program if I apply for the Spring 2014 semester (I even have the stats course complete); however, I have calculated I would be 61 when I graduated with an ADN and 64 when I would complete the BSN program and with the BSN becoming a requirement for hire in DFW, I have come to realize that perhaps I have run out of time to pursue the goal of becoming a nurse. I've completed all my pre-requisite and BSN pathway classes and will be turning to DCCCD to complete the classes necessary to obtain a Associate degree at the end of this fall 2013. Thereafter, am considering returning to the legal profession, where I worked for many years, and going to school in the evening to work towards a bachelors degree or complete a paralegal program.
Something I didn't realize until after I was already volunteering is that it is not a guarantee a certain amount of points will get you into the program nor that they will hire you if you are and graduate, If they they decide not to hire you or should you decline an offer of employment, fail or leave the program, you will owe them back the monies they spent on your education. They have a contract you be asked to sign. You may want to ask for it beforehand so you have time to review the it terms. I also learned they they of the 70 that applied 23 were volunteers. After the evals, they had 52 who were eligible (I don't know the breakdown of employee vs. volunteers). I was told they were interviewing everyone eligible.
I wish you all the best of luck and congrats on your acceptance.

Perseverance and tenacity. Don't give up. Apply for the next semester. Fewer people apply for Spring semester since it's not the beginning of the school year. Last year in Spring I believe only forty people applied.
Don't give up on your dream.
Woooooow! @boomertx I can't imagine how you must be feeling. I'm surprised at the low points who were accepted since this applicant pool was so big... and I CANNOT believe you were confronted about an anti- Repub Facebook post! Good thing I don't associate myself with MHS volunteers on my FB page. That's ridiculous and I have RN friends at mdmc who are hard core liberals and are very vocal on FB. That's BS! I really feel for you Thanks for sharing.
Hi Everyone! I plan on applying for the Spring semester. I was wondering if those who were interviewed for the fall could tell me how the interview was like? I may be a little ahead of myself but I want to be prepared if I do get an interview. Also could you tell me what your points were and if you got in or not? Thanks so much!

Nope.... my husband said nothing today either... however, it was my understanding that they were only taking 20 total for both locations (central and Charlton) and that they interviewed more than that and then would narrow it down to the top 20 afterward.... but I don't know exactly how many they interviewed (I thought somewhere I heard 30)... I know that El Centro is the one who ranked all of the applicants and then sent a list of the top "whatever number" over to Methodist and then Methodist selected who to interview from the list sent by El Centro. Methodist was working on verifiying eligibility while el Centro was ranking everyone.... I got an email saying they would only be interviewing only the top applicants who qualify for the program and then selecting from the interviewees to offer the spots to.... I assume that if you didn't get an interview, you didn't get in however it was my understanding that some who did interview, wouldn't necessarily make it either.
