  1. The reason it will show up to the Florida BON is because the arrest will be on the FBI background check. But the good news is that after the statute of limitation (SOL) runs you can petition for expungement of the arrest record citing that you were never charged within the time of the SOL. Also the arrest will not show up on regular state reports which employers and anyone in the public for that matter are privy to.
  2. I'm very excited about being able to bring down my premium cost of almost $12,000/yr High $2,500 deductible (I have to pay 100% of that before I receive any benefit) present plan with the subsidy and cost sharing offered. I am 57 with a pre-existing condition that makes impossible to change plans and since nursing school requires you to have health insurance it's been a financial burden on my family.
  3. https://www.healthcare.gov/help-center/ 1-800-318-2596 I thought I'd share the official hotline# and help center url for those of you with questions about obamacare. I found talking to them very helpful with several questions I had about obtaining coverage in a state (Texas) that has opted out.
  4. [h=1] "Dallas' Parkland Memorial Hospital saw $5.3 million net loss last month" then you read articles like this one blaming the nursing shortage for the most of the loss because it is causing. "increasing reliance on expensive contract labor, the hospital said. Since 2011, Parkland has spent $32 million on traveling nurses and other outside contractors to fill its depleted ranks. It expects to spend an additional $8 million next year. Temporary employees earn about 40 percent more than full-time Parkland workers. The hospital also must pay the staffing agency. “This contract labor issue is killing us..." Parkland’s interim chief operating officer "said registered nurses, particularly those specializing in surgery and emergency care, are difficult to hire and retain. Parkland officials say a national nursing shortage makes temps more attractive. The hospital’s regulatory problems also make it a tougher place to work." Certainly they want experienced nurses, but certainly, it would be cheaper to hire new grads and train them with contracts to stay for a specified time than rather than spending on temporary help. It just seems so illogical. What's more the citizens of Dallas County are having to make up the losses and all the while don't realize there is no nursing shortage and there are thousands of new grads worthy of investing in. 5. Thanks jetergirl for sending me the info pages. Don't you find it odd they haven't uploaded the new packet yet. We are at the halfway point for the filing period for the Spring 2014. Also, I notice that there is a maximum is 30 points noted that will be considered. If they will only use a maximum of 30 then they will probably use GPA and hesi test results to deal with the ties. Can't get clarification yet from El Centro. Everyone seems to be on vacay.
  6. I'd to receive he new point system sheet you all are passing around. [email protected] .. thanks
  7. Flowerpowernow - Thanks for the condolences, I'm still licking my wounds here. Did you get into the program? BTW, what where the "low points" you were surprised at? I'm really curious.
  8. I started working as a volunteer at Methodist in July of 2012. Didn't hit the 6 month eligibility for Spring 2013 and had to wait until the May 31 deadline for this upcoming 2013 Fall semester. I worked as a volunteer for now a year in a Methodist department, where I visit the waiting rooms and new patients to provide info on and sign them up for one of their resource programs. Since I have a heavy marketing background, I loved it and was quite good at it. I was told by the director of volunteer services, that because I was working strictly for this department, they would be completing an submitting the evaluation when I applied to the program. I was contacted by El Centro Program administrator at Methodist that I had made the initial list from El centro and they would be interviewing everyone on the list once the evaluations were received back from the department heads. I followed up with a phone call 2 weeks later when I did not receive a time to interview and I was told I was eliminated because of a bad evaluation. I was floored. I had received several written "great" recommendations from patients and their family and I felt sure my department would have provide me a good evaluation. After talking to my department head, I found out they had not even contacted to provide an evaluation and it was the volunteer director on her own who had done so and why? I believe it relates back to when the volunteer director confronted me about a post I made on facebook she claimed reflecting a bias against the republicans party and suggested I take volunteer at Methodist off my profile. However, I am 58 years old so perhaps it's age discrimination. My department head has offered to sit down with the me and the volunteer director and address the bad evaluation, but it's already too late to do anything about getting into the program and the thought staying another 4-5 months just so I can reapply in the fall for the 2014 spring semester isn't attractive to me. However, l have become very close to the people in my department at Methodist. They treated me great and I really enjoyed the experience so I'm torn as to if and/or how to quit diplomatically. Plan B - I am confident my 26 points would get me into the straight El Centro program if I apply for the Spring 2014 semester (I even have the stats course complete); however, I have calculated I would be 61 when I graduated with an ADN and 64 when I would complete the BSN program and with the BSN becoming a requirement for hire in DFW, I have come to realize that perhaps I have run out of time to pursue the goal of becoming a nurse. I've completed all my pre-requisite and BSN pathway classes and will be turning to DCCCD to complete the classes necessary to obtain a Associate degree at the end of this fall 2013. Thereafter, am considering returning to the legal profession, where I worked for many years, and going to school in the evening to work towards a bachelors degree or complete a paralegal program. Something I didn't realize until after I was already volunteering is that it is not a guarantee a certain amount of points will get you into the program nor that they will hire you if you are and graduate, If they they decide not to hire you or should you decline an offer of employment, fail or leave the program, you will owe them back the monies they spent on your education. They have a contract you be asked to sign. You may want to ask for it beforehand so you have time to review the it terms. I also learned they they of the 70 that applied 23 were volunteers. After the evals, they had 52 who were eligible (I don't know the breakdown of employee vs. volunteers). I was told they were interviewing everyone eligible. I wish you all the best of luck and congrats on your acceptance.
  9. Congratulations everyone! But quick question, I'm putting my application in the mail tomorrow for the 5/20 deadline for Fall 2013 at Methodist. Will they accept copies of Physical Exam (my doctor faxed it to me) or anything else? I'm sending copies of documentation. I like hearing some of you are getting in with 22 points .. that's what I have. Hope to join you all in the fall. CONGRATS AGAIN!
  10. I wonder if they used your statistic class for the Math requirement instead of Algebra taking it off your BSN course credits.
  11. I honestly can't believe I did so well in microbiology. The first class I was freaked out about not being to see anything in the microscope and today I completed the final lab practical with a grade that put me over what I need to make an A in the course without having to take the final lecture test next week. Our instructor worked us really hard the first couple of months so we got the unknown done by the middle of November which made the last few weeks so much easier. She also gave us lots of extra credit quizzes online. I do believe it has a lot to do with the instructor so make sure you get a good reference on your potential micro teacher. No more science courses.... yeah!!!
  12. I will be applying for the Fall 2013 ADN program for the first time. Looking to have low 20's in points could have more if I ace the Hesi. Hoping to get in :)
  13. I too am happy being a "B" student. It's interesting that after I made that conscious decision I starting making better grades and am actually watch my grades move closer to being "A" student ... no biggie either way. The elimination of the stress factor is very freeing.
  14. Had my my first APII class this past Saturday. It's a once a week class with 3 hours lab and 3 hours lecture. Blood is our first chapter -- we typed our blood and found the hemocrit percentage, collagulation. I use Rate my professor and my edu to pick my professors and this one has a 58% GPA average of an "A". So should not be too hard. Also taking Microbiology, Lifespan & Development & english comp. Great to have an online group to interact with.
  15. Just found this thread. Started Microbiology last week. First time I'd used a microscope for more than just looking at a slide that was already setup. Found I had alot of trouble with working the darned thing and Teacher told me to relax and that it would be okay. I don't think I'm a labgeek.
