el centro college

Ok, I'm moving from SA to Dallas and will be doing my preceptorship at Baylor hosp and taking courses at el centro. I'm looking for the most central place to live since baylor and el centro are somewhat near each other. Which places are the good neighborhoods, or good places to live. I'm looking to lease an apartment. I plan on going to Dallas but would like some ideas on places to visit and consider. Thanks!

That area is not very safe IMHO. I don't know your budget but you could check uptown that is a better neighborhood and close to both Baylor and El Centro. If not, areas like East Dallas are less than 20 min away, it's safe and much cheaper.

Ok I think I saw a city name university park, are you familiar? And places like richardson and garland?

Yes, University Park and Highland Park are nice areas but WAY too expensive. IMHO, you get too little for the price you pay. Both are the most expensive neighborhood in Dallas actually.

Garland is not that close to the area you're looking for and it's cheaper but not that safe. I don't think I would rent there.

Richardson is OK but it has its spots. I've been told not to rent near Belt Line and Plano area because it's not very safe during the night. Other areas like Coit Rd. aren't supposed to be the best ones. (I used to commute through that area to go to UTD so I only know it during the day only).

Hm what about Mockingbird Station area? There are apartments near SMU that aren't the cheapest ones but aren't that bad, and it's close to 75. (Easy commute). Apartments called The Village are near 75 and Lovers too, same area. East Dallas (Casalinda, Lakewood, etc) have other options with a broad range of prices.

Yea I just checked out some apartments in highland and university park. Some places were very nice and affordable but for my first apt in Dallas, I don't think I want to live in an expensive place such as those. I'll be getting a house within the year so the apt is only temporary.

Yea, Garland isn't close, but I was just looking for places on the east side as you suggested. Is uptown a city or a reference to uptown Dallas?

Right now in SA I live in a family neighborhood. Lot's of houses and apts where i am, military families and people 24 and up living here. I'd like to find a similar place in Dallas.

I'd rather not commute 45 minutes everyday, but if that's what I have to do then i guess....

ok, I will check them out! Thanks so much btw.

Uptown is an area of Dallas. Downtown is a bit dead and most of the city is... I would say "suburban". If you want have a "city" environment, uptown is supposed to be the place :)

There are military people everywhere here :) I don't know about specific neighborhoods, though. (There is a forum called City-Data. There are several real estate agents that post regularly there and they could give you better references) Mid 20's people... I would give The Village a try. Lots of young professionals, people in the medical field, and college students (grad included).

I live on East Dallas, in the limit of Casalinda and Lakewood. The White Rock Lake area attracts tons of people, especially during the weekends, but the area is not that active otherwise. I took a class at El Centro at 8 a.m. and it took me less than 30 min to commute there. Most of the time was wasted on the freeway. Out of rush hour, you can be at home in 15 minutes. Same with Richardson if you take 75. I think you have several good options.

Hope this helped you a bit! :)

It definitely did, I will definitely be looking into it. I found some apts in the Casalinda and lakewood area so I will definitely be checking them out. Thank you so much.

My boyfriend goes to Baylor college of dentistry which is connected to Baylor Hospital and he stays within walking distance at The Marquis on Gaston which are really nice apartments and reasonable for college students, also their is The Marquis at Texas Street, and Ambrose are all within walking distance. Marquis on Gaston seems to be the most popular.

Thank you so much, I'll look into those also.
