Hello Everyone,
I am pretty new to allnurses. I am still taking my pre-reqs through DCCCD. I am wondering what past/current students have to say about the ADN programs at El Centro and Brookhaven. I know that Brookhaven's program is only 15 months in length.
What other differences exist?
Ease of acceptance?
Professors?
Respect in area hospitals?
Thanks for your feedback!

Hi Sarah - I think that if you are a dedicated student and have to work, you will be fine as long as you keep your focus. It will take about 1 year to get the pre-reqs done or 1.5 years. The hard part is actually getting into the courses. I tried for about 3 semesters to get in the last class I need. But since I was never a student during the fall/spring semesters I could never register in time. I wasn't eligible for priority registration so the one class I need was always full and it's only available at brookhaven. Try to widen your opportunities and look into multiple nursing schools.
I am not planning on working, so that I can complete my pre-reqs. luckily, i'm able to afford it. I have 4 pre-reqs/support classes knocked out already because they transferred in from my bachelors degree. So hopefully, I'll get them done within 1.5 years. I'm actually taking chem and a&p together this coming up fall. do you think that is doable? i hear taking both at the same time will be crazy?
I took 19 hours one semester. I took A&P 2, Micro, and some other classes... it's hard but its doable. Being busy keeps you motivated.
do you have any tips for studying or anything else? i'm trying to get my a&p books early, so i can begin studying for the class, but the bookstore said there will be new books and don't know which ones are coming in. should i just e-mail the prof and ask for the title of the books?
also, did you get in your first try? i REALLY want to graduate within 2.5-3 years.
thanks for answering all the questions!
