EKG Tech to Nursing

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I have a friend whose ultimate goal is to be a RN in cardiology. She has asked me a question that I really have no answer to. Since I can't seem to find the answer I'm turning to the allnurses.com readers/posters to see if they can help. She would like to do a EKG Tech course online. We have been searching but can't seem to find one. When we type in "EKG Technician online training" it brings up a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with our search. Can anybody please help us? Do any of you know of any EKG Technician courses that are offered online? She doesn't have adequate transportation at the moment to attend a traditional classroom style. Any information is very helpful. Thanks in advance.

first off when you refer to EKG im assuming you mean Dysrhythmia arythmia etc.. if that be the case simply search dysrhythmia online and there is like a self help course.. Learning to do the monitor tech is a bit challenging but doable by yourself as well. what i would recommend is this book called ECG or EEG for dummies. The cover should have a female nurse in a corner and should be red orange and yellow. if i can find the site that i used for learning strips ill be more than happy to tell you. Also even though she doesnt have transportation.. i would suggest checking her local hospitals for Continuing Education classes. Its held for about a couple hours and just 2 days! after that cert she can work in the hospital as a monitor tech! After understanding the basics its now time to study strips strips and more strips.. That book has an ample amount of strips.. becasue even though a wave may look one way perhaps its because of the lead being use or it could be inverted. Ill post later on when i find a really good site i used to practice strips.. Hope this Helps =)

Oh this is the site i used for Helping me understand EKG... i however did the class in a traditional school setting... but this should help and if you have any questions feel free to ask me.. i use to do monitor tech before i was a paramedic.. and im going for RN so ill try my best. =)

This is a really good site though.

Thank you for the resources that you have provided. It is much appreciated and definately more than what we have found by doing a search online. I work at a local hospital and at the moment there haven't been any classes that have been offered and I have looked.

how do you become a ekg/ecg technician.i have been searching online but i cant find an accredited school to become an ecg tech.

There are no online classes for EKG tech. You have to actually do it and be in a class. Usually a phlebotomy/EKG class is together.

Try american red cross, they offer them in certain places. Near me they do.
