I am a new grad looking to take ACLS and it has a prereq to know ekg and cardiac drug knowledge....My question for those who have taken ACLS do I need to pay the money for and ekg course first or just review basic rhythms and drugs?

The key word here is 'review'. Do you know your rhythms now? If you aren't comfortable being able to quickly diagnose a CHB, or you haven't taken an EKG course previously, then you need to take the course now prior to the ACLS class.

It is expensive for a new grad, since you probably do not have a job, but it doesn't hurt to get certified. I don't think you need to take the prereqs, because when I took my class they reviewed all the drugs used and EKG strips, plus most of the material is what you've already learned in class.

I took my ACLS shortly after we learned ECG in class. It was all I needed. It looks good on a resume but I dont need it in OB but I already have it if I need to float to ICU
