EFSC Eastern Florida State College January '14 applicants!

U.S.A. Florida

Anyone else "patiently" waiting the next few weeks to hear back about their application to the palm bay program? I had 35 points and I'm crossing my fingers that I got in and trying to not get too excited until letters go out. I'd love to hear from anyone else in the same boat

You've already started the program correct? How is it going? What is the schedule like?

The program is going great. Its fun, challenging, and rewarding. The schedule is easy.. its very much work at your own pace. You must be disciplined and diligent to excel. We are heading into our 3rd of 5 semesters...no complaints here ( youll learn that the people who complain the most are the ones who struggle). good luck ;)

Thank you! How many days a week is class?

Class is 1 day a week. Lab is also 1 day a week, but not every week. you will have clinical obligations as well, which vary by semester.

@Juliab330 - I just applied for Jan 2015! I started another thread yesterday called "Eastern Florida State College Jan 2015 (Palm Bay prog) applicants?" so we can start networking and commiserating a little between now and Oct. ;)

Ok great! This will be a long couple months! How did you do on your points if you don't mind me asking? Do you have health care experience? I will go look for your thread now! Good luck!

Hello! I am reaching out to people who has already completed there pre reqs to the program! I'm currently taking classes at the Palm bay campus and asking who are some good science teachers! I'm currently in Gagilani A+P 1 class and he is tough.

I took my sciences up at the Melbourne campus but I've heard really great things about Janice Burger at Palm Bay for A+P. Not sure about any Microbio profs down at that campus though. I would highly recommend you check out ratemyprofessor.com if you haven't already. Great site, very helpful and pretty accurate all around. It hasn't steered me wrong yet! You should also make sure you take the Nursing Success Skills class so you can get those 5 points for your nursing app. They should offer the class again early in 2015 and sign ups for that is probably in the next 2-4 weeks. You can call the nursing office to find out for sure. FYI- Limited slots for those classes and they fill up SUPER fast. When do you think you'll be ready to apply to the nursing prog? Good luck in AP1!!

Thanks so much for the info! I am going to try to apply by August 2015 deadline for the Palm Bay campus program we shall see, trying to not put too much on my plate I was taking 5 classes this semester but had to withdrawal from one because it was way to much for me. Have you went through the program yet? I was also going to apply to IRSC too.

Hi! I'm not a part of your group, but I did just get accepted in to the Palm bay January 2015 class! I'm really excited! I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on where to get some of the many books on our book list at a reasonable price? Particularly the Med/Surg "Package" that is only available at the bookstore? Can you get these books used? Thanks :)

So fun question. There are MANY options on how to get around this. I bought all of my books on amazon with the exception of the "Concept Mapping" book. The med/surg package I decided not to get, I bought the book alone (978-0323086783). The package includes that book and a companion. I have yet to find a situation where I wish I had the companion (978-0323091435), yet others find it very helpful. Either way, I believe they are cheaper separately, even if you bought both new.

Side note, buy all of your books, don't rent. You'll need them across various semesters.

Also *IF* you don't mind having to match up chapter variations, it is fine to buy the old editions. And if you have a buddy who got in with you, I would go in halvsies on Dosage Calculations (if you are pretty confident with math) and Concept Mapping. I've barely opened those books at all.

Hmmmmm, that's all that stands out as stuff "I wish someone had told me". So congrats and have a great time with all of the shopping, planning, and daydreaming between now and when class starts. Smalltownhero and I are on the FNSA board so we will be seeing you at orientation!

Congrats to those accepted!
