We have an older Lifescan monitor for carotids. This machine hasn't been made for years. My question would be what is everyone using for EEG monitoring? Thanks

So no one uses any type of EEG monitoring during carotids? Interesting.

I have worked in an OR where they didn't use EEG monitors for carotids. This was a small community hospital. My dad had his done but he had it done at the place I work at now-a large hospital with all the bells and whistles. I do strictly ortho but I can try to see what they use for carotids, just hope they don't try to drag me in the room and use me!:coollook:(our vascular guys can be difficult..)

We don't do EEG, but we do cerebral oximetry. Don't know too much about it because anesthesia usually takes care of applying the sensors and monitoring.

It is not an EEG in the sense that there are a multitude of wires and such. With ours there are only 5. One each behind the ears and on the forehead with one neutral in the center. Some places will use the BIS and most anesthesiologist don't think this is a true indication of brain activity that the surgeons are looking for. All the surgeons I have ever worked with over 30 years insist on brain activity monitoring. Witchy don't get into something I might regret!
