I have a patient w/ COPD that smokes. I am doing a NCP that has to be education/ teaching based. so i'm trying to come up with a defficient knowledge diagnosis that i can possibly get 6 interventions out of, can anyone please help me i am having a really hard time w this

deficient knowledge, specify means absence or deficiency of cognitive information related to a specific topic. you need to define what your topic is going to be. that, like any other nursing problem, is going to be based on what you discovered the patient's teaching needs were during your assessment of the patient. why does this patient have a teaching need? that is the etiology (r/t part of your diagnostic statement) and needs to be clearly established in order to use this diagnosis. interventions and goals are not a problem. the interventions are the specific content, procedures and materials you use for the teaching plan. once you know what the subject is that you are going to teach, the interventions are:

Quite a few of the COPD'ers I've cared for wanted to quit, but were too addicted. Did your patient ever try to quit before? It's pretty common knowledge that smoking is bad for ya.
