Hi! I am a new nursing instructor. I have been a nurse for 4 years, and an NP for 2 years. I really like education and have precepted NP students and taught online on the side while an NP. Because of relocation, I accepted a teaching position and not currently working as an NP. My thought was that I would eventually find a part time NP job to supplement my adjunct faculty job. However, it is becoming hard to find a second position when I work 3-4 days/week. I teach RNs, and I really enjoy it. But I worry that I will not be taken seriously as an instructor if I stop gaining my own clinical experience now. I have an MSN and understand I should probably work toward a doctorate to continue in education. Is it worth seeking a doctorate in nursing if I am not working as a nurse, only as an educator? Do some institutions require their faculty to hold secondary jobs as clinical nurses?
What is the best terminal degree to obtain today in nursing education? Even though I am an NP I do not think I will start a DNP program.

This is exactly the reason I haven't applied for teaching; they all are M-F during the working hours...
I'm dying inside to try teaching, it just sounds like so much fun to me.
I wish I could help you... Good luck though!!

How about one day per week as an NP in a minute clinic or in urgent care?? Or find a busy practice that would hire you one day per week..or consulting to nursing homes.
