  1. It's not so much which one card to have, but where to use which card for the most points/rewards. I have multiple reward cards and accounts, so I use a website to compare deals I can get. If you're a traveler or just like dining and shopping, check it out: rewardassistant.com
  2. Hello. I am a new nurse educator with an MSN. I want to continue to pursue the education route, but feel that I should work toward a PhD. Anyone know of reasonably priced online programs? Or any programs with significant financial assistance and/or stipend?
  3. Thanks for your responses. So, a PhD in a non-nursing healthcare field may not be any more beneficial than an MSN when applying for a faculty position? I have heard that faculty positions sometimes require that you maintain a clinical job. I just don't understand how one would have the time if he/she is teaching full time... or even going to school full time. My passion is more in research, policy and education than clinical nursing. But how could I call myself a PhD in a field that I do not work clinically? I feel like there is a lot of criticism about that out there.. thoughts?
  4. If a university requires a doctorate degree to be a nursing faculty member, does it matter which type? I understand DNP or PhD in nursing would meet the requirement. What about a PhD in a related field, i.e. PhD in Health Administration. So, say a nurse with an MSN goes on to obtain a PhD in Health Administration or Health Policy (non-nursing). Would he/she meet the faculty requirement in a nursing program?
  5. Hi! I am a new nursing instructor. I have been a nurse for 4 years, and an NP for 2 years. I really like education and have precepted NP students and taught online on the side while an NP. Because of relocation, I accepted a teaching position and not currently working as an NP. My thought was that I would eventually find a part time NP job to supplement my adjunct faculty job. However, it is becoming hard to find a second position when I work 3-4 days/week. I teach RNs, and I really enjoy it. But I worry that I will not be taken seriously as an instructor if I stop gaining my own clinical experience now. I have an MSN and understand I should probably work toward a doctorate to continue in education. Is it worth seeking a doctorate in nursing if I am not working as a nurse, only as an educator? Do some institutions require their faculty to hold secondary jobs as clinical nurses? What is the best terminal degree to obtain today in nursing education? Even though I am an NP I do not think I will start a DNP program.
