Does anyone think or know if this economy is affecting pre-nursing students from wanting to apply to nursing school? The reason I ask is because the hospital I work for has message stating, "NOT HIRING NEW GRADS" under the job search engine. My friend and I were discussing this today. I wanted to know what other people thought???

To heck with that. Follow your dream if that is what it really is.
Nothing is going to stop me from getting my BSN. I just wanted to know everyones thoughts. I agree with you, if nursing is what you want to do nothing should stand in your way. I have heard other comments that more people are attending nursing school because they think it i recession proof. Although nursing is in high demand, it isn't recession proof.

I agree. I don't think it's recession proof. However, I think the economy does affect pre-nursing and nursing students. Hopefully in the long run, people will retire or move on to higher positions or just move on in general and there will be space for the incoming nurses. Right now, with there be limited money to pay any new employees, graduates everywhere, not just nursing, are probably having a hard time finding jobs. People are getting laid off, maybe not so much now, and there are just cutbacks in general. It kind of sucks because so many people put their lives on hold to go to school and when it's all said and done they are just waiting months for a job. Meanwhile, the bills are stacking and loans are needing to be repaid. It's really tough but we just have to stick it out and hope it works in the end.
