ECCO Program

Published

Is there anyone doing the ECCO (Essentials of Cricital Care) program that is sponsered by the ACCN? My employer just offered it to me and I was wondering if anyone else is doing the program and what they think of it. So far, I am having lots of fun learning, but it is really hard. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Diane

I started out on the ECCO program a long time ago and left that facility and went to one that had live learning/classroom. I prefer the classroom setting.

I ask alot of questions and I HATED that the ECCO program consisted mainly computer and bedside. IF i had a question I had to wait for a reply via email from the CNS or hopefully I would get a patient on that module.

Even when I went back to school--I took some online course--but didnt care for it. I prefer the classroom setting. I looooove computers but my prefered method of learning is teacher vs student or vice versa:wink2:

I agree that only doing ECCO may be a little dry. The best combination would be a hospital orientation that incorporates ECCO and classroom lectures into 12 week orientation, before you even begin working with a preceptor on the floor.

yep, the new critical care rns at my hospital have to do ecco. i don't think the older rns had to though, since they'd already been doing it for forever. i didn't mind it cause i got to work while i did it, but i couldn't get off orientation until i finished it. the only thing is....it's a looooooooonnnnnnnnngggg time to look at a computer screen!
