Go to the EPN and find a scheduled discussion on the particular exam that you are looking at. Or you can also get information you need just in thier chat room. ALSO, you must not be afraid to ask specific questions you have of the faculty at Excelsior. You can e mail through the web site or call.

Take one exam at a time. If you look at the content guied it is ver specific about what is on the exam. Yes it does cover a lot of territory. But this is a comprehensive final exam. So you do need to know your stuff. For example cardiac will cover a number of long chapters. Study them. You are preparing for RN. This information is in the RN text book for a reason.

Yep, it is a lot of work. Keep in mind every exam is 4 Semester hours. You are not going to be given that for a superficial knowledge. Further more once you complete the theory exams you will have to demonstrate your knowledge but acutally applying it in a real clinical setting.

Thanks, I've taken other exams, but on this particular one, I guess I'm trying to figure out if I'm noting too much info- not trying to take the easy way out. Just don't want to concentrate too much on the minutia, if that's going to cause me to forget other more important info. Does that make sense? I don't want to overdo it and study myself into a corner. I did decide to study for this course by itself, though, after seeing the book. Anyway, I think talking to my advisor is in order. Thanks!

how do you like excelsior? i've just registered for info to obtain bsn. is it worth it? do employers reimburse for online college?

I like it so far- no classes to take that cut into work hrs, and no papers to write. My employer reimburses me for test fees and books, plus my state BON's scholarship helps cover the cost, too.

My employer will also reimburse. I simply choose to pay for it myself. After all it is MY education and I will be the one who possess the knowledge and the degree.

I just don't want to get into an indentured servent situation with an employer. I do not want to be locked into something where an employer may think they can hold something over my head as a way to manipulate or abuse.

I guess it depends on what you consider minute. Nursing knowledge needs to be pretty detailed. I agree talk to an advisor. I did not think you were looking for a short cut. It can seem overwhelming. I usually just try to take one thing at a time as I go through the content guide. Break it down into small units (the content guide actually does this for you) and concentrate on one at a time.

Yeah, I think that's the best way to go about it- I'm going to rehash everything periodically, and then re-write my notes before I take the test. I think I just had a "OMG, what did I get myself into" moment after I started the course. Actually, now that I've taken a breather, it does seem to be a lot of stuff I already learned in Micro, etc. (just in further detail), so I don't feel so overwhelmed. Thanks for the feedback!
