I just turned in my application package to the EMU Nursing office. I was wondering if anyone else is out there waiting for the letter on June 15th. So excited and good luck to everyone!!
I can tell you cbrooks that you are going to get in for sure....no worries. I am about to graduate in Dec. 2012 with my BSN at EMU. My class had over 300 applicants and only 80 were accepted. I was surprised to learn that the majority of my classmates had no patient care experience and some had prerequisite GPA of around 3.6. I was worried that I would not be accepted just like most of you until I got in and started talking to others in the program. I had 5 years of patient care and a 3.7 GPA with around 8 hrs of my prereq courses taken at EMU and the rest at other universities. The school will not email you acceptance, only send you a letter in the mail informing you if you are in or waitlisted. I talked to a few who didn't get in initially but were waitlisted and they were notified the day classes started that they were accepted. My TEAS was 92 percentile program and 96 percentile nationally as well, but you only need to get the minimum to receive the full points. Hope this helps...good luck to u all!
cbrooks, It is a good program at EMU. You will be assigned in a group of 8 students for all clinicals. You will stay in the cohort of 8 through the whole program. Hopefully everyone gets along The majority of the instructors are great, but no program is perfect. You have to take the good with the bad and just go with the flow. I make every opportunity a learning experience. Clinical assignments are picked for you every semester. You have no choice and each is different. One semester may be afternoons and the next days. I have been to DMC in Detroit, Oakwood, Chelsea, St. Joe, U of M. Some of the students in my clinical group are currently working nursing extern programs this summer. Others picked up tech jobs at different hospitals along the way for experience. I have really enjoyed the program and can't imagine having gone anywhere else. Also, expect to pay 99 dollars per semester for ATI. It is an external company that supplies you supplemental text books and tests you after each course to determine your knowledge. It may help find your weakness so you may strengthen it for the NCLEX. It also provides training videos as well. There are a lot of mixed reviews on this in our program, but it is mandatory to have to pay this every semester. In my opinion the only flaw of the program is that they do not focus enough on nursing care plans. The only courses people seemed to struggle with most were pharmacology and mental health. I read the book and even though I missed some classes, still managed to get an A- in each. I will be honest, you will need to spend a lot of time reading. I have spent many weekends studying and not spending enough time with my kids. I try to make up for in during the summertime though
. If you have any other questions feel free to ask and I will gladly answer them. I wish you luck with acceptance, although I know you won't need it
CasseyW, you stated you had 4.0 prereq GPA, 13 cr. hrs from EMU, 5 yrs medic and 1 yr. MA.....You have better stats than anybody I have ever spoke with in any of our class. Well one person was a paramedic for 10 yrs and had 3.8 GPA prereq. You are most likely in top 10 for acceptance if I were to guess. Good luck! I know you will love the program...Please everyone post when you get your acceptance letter
Hmm ok, I think some people are very under informed.I know people who applied without teas. If you taken your sciences at Emu and got a 4.0 in them alone, you should get in even if you didn't take anything else at eastern. I hear maybe 20 at most will have that 4.0, well that's what advisers and professors have been saying. I dont apply to next year, but i wanna get all the info I can to be ready. Ill have the A's in everything but organic chem and English.
